    Thumbs up UK-Skeptics' Book Store.

The latest feature on the UKS website is the new book store. It's a fairly large (and will keep growing) collection of books that will be of particular interest to skeptics and those who prefer books to be educational, factual and informational.

There's a shopping cart system so you can buy more than one at a time and the payment method is secure (currently PayPal).

    See: UK-Skeptics' Book Store

We're served by a professional book company and books will be delivered directly from their stock so service will be good and swift.

For more general books/DVD/etc. purchases we still have the Amazon store: http://www.ukskeptics.com/bookstore.php

And a direct affiliate link: Direct link to Amazon.

There's also an Amazon affiliate search page on this forum which can be used too: http://www.ukskeptics.com/forum/amazon_store.php

    Remember:

UKS is a not-for-profit organisation and any proceeds received will go into the UKS account and can only be used to fund UKS activities.

    Hi John,

    Re Skeptics Bookstore

I need to buy my OU textbook(s) - how can I do that through UK Skeps Bookstore - I see most books are Prometheus there? But it's avaliable on Amazon. In May I bought a book via here from Amazon - can't see how I get to Amazon from the link in this thread - or perhaps when I woke up this morning Mrs Stupid was inhabiting my brain!

    Also I need a calculator.

Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds

    Art of Contrary Thinking

Two must-have books - just finished reading them last week and I can't say enough good things about them. A cracking read about people can become misled, deluded and follow the crowd.

    Books Just In!

Some new books added to the bookstore this morning, fresh from Prometheus...

The Haunted Observatory - Richard Baum

    For anyone who thinks astronomy is a dry science, this review gives a flavour of what it's about;

'Every time Richard Baum opens astronomy's closet, unexpected and
dubious relics come tumbling out. Baum's haunting review of false trails and aberrant observations is, however, much more than a slate of astronomical anecdotes. He expertly referees the contest between perception and expectation and reminds us we still sometimes shadowbox with phantoms.' E C Krupp, Director, Griffith Observatory.

The Art Of Deception - Nicholas Capaldi & Miles Smit

Revised and updated, this is an effective introduction to critical thinking - coming from the unusual angle of teaching the reader how to develop skills of deception and manipulation, it teaches how to spot the fallacious and fuzzy logic of others.

    Skepticism - An Anthology

A good introduction to philosophical skepticism with handy bite-sized chapters dealing with the thinking of many great philosophers from Plato to Popkin - fully referenced but not a dry or overwhelming read.

    Intelligent Design

Sparked by the argument about teaching Intelligent Design alongside Evolution in American schools, the first 50 pages deal with the ensuing court case (2005) and is followed by chapters from a variety of thinkers discussing the scientific validity (or otherwise) of the ID theory. This is part of Prometheus' Contemporary Issues series, and whilst being appropriate to the American market, should still be read by skeptics worldwide.

You'll find these at the top of the first page in the Bookstore. Happy browsing!

So if I go to Amazon through that link a percentage of what I spend goes to UKS?

Yes. About 4% I believe. Not totally sure though.

    Every little helps.

Quite a lot of charities/ not for profit organisations benefit from linking to Amazon, I believe. I think Amazon is excellent, but I also want the little local bookshop to survive, so I do buy locally as well.

Do UKS still get a cut if you use Amazon marketplace? I tend to use the marketplace more than Amazon itself.

I can't see why not, but I do not actually know. Perhaps Melanie or John Jackson could clarify.
