    The power of Chi.

I picked this video up from this week's JREF commentary.

It shows a Kiai Master demonstrating his powers by knocking over his opponents without even touching them.

Of course, they're most likely his students and are simply being compliant.

His big mistake was to take on a real challenger. :o

Just like all other psychic-type powers they disappear when tested!!

It is really amusing to see how delusion and reality differ.

This could be a fake of course, but many people really do buy into this chi nonsense.

    I saw that too.

It's a shame the video quality is so bad, I'd have loved to see the look on his face as he realised his "powers" weren't working anymore.

If it is real I should imagine his students would still insist in his powers being real.

I agree. I'm sure they'd give standard responses like "you can't expect it to work 100% of the time" or "there was a skeptic present whose negativity interfered with the chi".

I've come across other similar claims for the powers of these martial arts 'masters', and their powers only seem to work on their own students. Funny that.

The obvious response to that is "What the hell is the use of a self-defense technique that only works against people who believe in it?" It's all very well using that excuse for telepathy and ghosts, but the whole point of martial arts is that you can use it on demand in a tricky situation.

The power of Chi is used in many ways in martial arts, isn't it? Like walking on broken glass and breaking slabs of concrete, etc.

Sometimes it takes an extreme example of it to show people who believe with out question that it may not be all it's cracked up to be.

Well 'Chi' is meant to be the life force or 'vital energy' of the universe. Only it doesn't seem to exist... ???

What I find interesting about demonstrations of 'Chi power' is the willingness of participants to obey authority and subserviently act their part.

In this video it is quite clear that some of them are acting the part (which makes me think it may be a spoof) but in others I've seen, similar things go on.
