While the W3 standards documentation on the HTTP protocol is no doubt very interesting, I don't immediately see what it has to do with either Africa or woo.

It's not the BBCode that is the problem, it is the confusing, cluttered and counterintuitive interface, combined with annoying quirks like dumping you back in the forum after posting (rather than allowing you to proofread your post at the end of the thread), no easy way to jump directly to the last post in a thread, etc.
It's not any BBcode I've used before. Normally the full URL goes in inverted commas, whereas this forum adds http:// in front of whatever you type and includes inverted commas as part of the address. It's probably just a different version, but it always catches me out.

You entered http:// twice so the link didn't work properly. I've set it up so that all you have to do is paste the url into the post form and it adds the tags for you.
As for the other comments, the user preferences can be changed in your settings. So if you wish to return to the thread you've posted in all you need to do is change the appropriate setting.
I'll change to a better forum if membership ever reaches the level to justify the cost.
