Thread: Things that Shouldn't Still Exist

    Things that Shouldn't Still Exist

Hi everyone. I'm a writer, amateur comedian, philosopher, and have always had a great interest in science and skepticism. Recently I started writing articles for a site entitled "Things that Shouldn't Still Exist." My most recent article is on hatred towards science (which seriously has no right still existing-- particularly in developed nations). Anyhow, I'm always looking for more topics to write about, so if anyone has suggestions, let me know. So far, I've also covered: Racism, Ghost Hunting, Square Dancing, and Circumcision. The site is an odd mix of philosophy and humor (which is necessary when you're an analytical thinker in a world of dubious, frustrating cultural norms).

May rational thought save my sanity.

    How about Homeopathy and Sunderland.

How about fake explosive detectors (see thread under Pseudoscience)?

    Good luck with your endeavours!

Homeopathy is a great one, thanks Mr.Smoketoomuch! I'll be looking up Sunderland and fake explosive detectors (thanks Dubious Dick) as soon as I'm done writing this.

Homeopathy is such a wide-open target that hitting it is not much fun.

And I rather like Sunderland - no, I have no connection with the place, I'm just an occasional visitor. But it's a lot more interesting than many places I've been to.

Anyone voting for Sunderland has obviously never been to Swansea.

Yes, Homeopathy should be right up there with Racism and Ghost Hunting. it is so obviously completely stupid.

I'd have gone for Morris Dancing rather than Square Dancing.

How about Crop Circle Research? We know who is making the circles (I could give you the names of the people responsible for most of the UK circles made in the last few years), we know how they make them, and yet there's still an industry of nutters writing books and doing "research", talking about alien messages, etc.

Agreed, or uncle dancing at weddings. I know, I've done it.

Bagpipes, especially the Scottish variety, and the Eurovision Song Contest.

    Oh, and the Vatican State.

Thanks for the replies everyone! So far I've liked: Religion (though I plan on doing that a ways down the road), uncle dancing (a bit obscure, but so damned funny), homeopathy, and crop circle research.

What's up with the hatred for McDonalds, KFC, and Burger King? Everyone needs a croissantwich here and there at 7AM....

Consider this , you step out of a door onto a street ,opposite is Macdonalds ,down the road is KFC. then over the way is a Subway...next to a Starbucks or Greggs ... No factories , no workshops no small business' no little cafes no tea shops just rows of charity shops and the odd estate agents ... where are you ? Sunderland ? Swindon ? Bury ? Birmingham ?
These big multi nationals are making all our cities and towns exactly the same ... even down to the red and yellow "Lego" bricks they build with...

Sorry to rant .. but you did ask.

No need to apologize, I quite enjoy ranting and hearing others rants (especially when they're well-stated and reasonable opinions). Although I mostly agree with you, I'll have to think it over for a few days to consider a world without croissantwiches.... Thanks for the reply, Watchman.

The Daily Mail, Woman's Hour and The Archers on Radio 4, junk mail, kilts, Noel Edmonds, the Church of England. I'd best shut up.
