No doubt the Scot Nats are watching with interest...

Shirley the difference is that the Catalunes want a chunk of France too?

When I was in the Perpignan area a few years ago I was suprised to discover how hostile some of the locals were to France. I even experienced that thing where you walk into a shop and the locals switch languages (in this case to Catalan) and pretend that they don't understand you. Swiftly reversed when they realised I was an idiot Rosbif and not a Frog.

    Here's a good one

A VICAR in the sleepy village of Ròtova (Valencia) caused a stir during mass when he became involved in a punch-up with a local resident in the aisle.

Víctor Jimeno, parish vicar for the Divina Aurora church, lost his rag when Rubén Costa, one of the organisers of the patron saint fiestas currently being celebrated, took the 'bread' out of his mouth during the service and broke it up in front of the vicar and trod it into the ground.

This act of blasphemy – as well as causing jaws to drop among the congregation – was too much for Pastor Jimeno, who punched Costa in the face.

Costa responded by belting him back, leading to a full-scale fist-fight by the altar.

According to witnesses, the fight ended when the vicar kicked the offender's backside.

Spain is going non-smoking in bars and restaurants.

Lots of discussion on expat forums about it. Don't know if it will be enforced - it's going to be interesting. My bar doesn't have a pavement outside even - it's on a busy, narrow street. We have a terrace with a retractable roof which I can open if it's not actually raining but it is the main eating area - not the ideal place to allow smoking.

If the Spanish bars flout the law and allow smoking I'll have a problem - being the only non-Spanish bar for many miles around, I'm an obvious target. I will have to comply.

SAME-SEX couples from all over the world have deliberate to snog each other in the Cathedral square in Barcelona in front of the Pope next month.

A group on Facebook, Queer Kissing Flashmob, which managed to receive 12,000 users to agree to go along on November 7 and display their love in public, has been close down by Facebook, claim the organisers.
