Thread: Gordon Brown has resigned

    Gordon Brown has resigned

Perhaps it reflects a failure of LibDem-Tory talks and a serious attempt at a Lib-Lab pact with GB's removal as a precondition, but I do feel sorry for the man. I see him as principled and substantial in a world where style matters more.

Easy to see Milliband senior as the successor, isn't it?

Some constitutional questions about if a Lab-Lib Coalition is created.

    1. Does the bigger of the parties have to be the one that gives the PM.
    2. Does the PM need to be the official leader of his party.
    3. Does the PM have to be an elected MP (obviously it would make PM's questions difficult if he wasn't)

    Principled and substantial? Brown?

DrS, which planet are you living on?

No, any MP can be PM if a majority want them.

No, but it is a Labour Party rule.

Lords as PM used to be common. They could still do Question Time in the Lords. I'm not sure.

OK, maybe bit carried away there, but still, in terms of socialist principles, he's way ahead of Blair! It's all relative!

People say this kind of thing about the likes of Gordon Brown and John Prescott. It's almost as though they are perceived as being better in some way because they are style free. It is worth remembering that it is possible to have no style and no substance...

And I of course have both Style and Substance.

Better than a load of Balls...

    Re: Gordon Brown has resigned

Yes, that's just too much. One thing for the PM to have Balls, but to be Balls is just not on. They say, anyway, that his seat is now a marginal, and they can't have a PM who could easily lose his seat next time.

I see Harriet Harman has ruled herself out too.

    Re: Gordon Brown has resigned

Though Brown has announced his resignation, he could well go on as PM for months if Labour do a deal with the Libdems. This time next week we could be pretty much where we were before the election! Makes you wonder why we bothered voting ...

OK, So Cameron is PM. Good luck to him - I don't give him long.

At least we don't have Blair's Labour and it's faith schools.

Would anybody here have wanted more of that? Really?

Has Cameron promised an end to the faith schools?

And to answer your question, I would pick Blair over Cameron for sure.

No, but Cameron has given Lib Dem, David Laws, the education brief and this is
what Laws thinks of faith schools:

Anyone else notice that Evan Harris lost his seat? What a wonderful Minister for Health he'd have made.
