Brilliant. Well spotted. You should send it to Private Eye. I have an offensive - to preists - joke on the subject, which I will recount if requested.

    The Vienna Boys choir?

    Horrible but not surprising.

News last night had an item about Ratty's* direct knowledge as cardinal of an especially disgusting case, where a priest molested over 200 boys. It came to light when he was old and sick, Ratty did nothing, and allowed him to die as a priest.

There was a vox pop outside of The Vatican. The faithful claimed it's all a plot to discredit the Pope. Jesus wept. (if you'll forgive the expression)

*With sincere apologies to Kenneth Grahame

There is currently a massive sex scandal here. The former star of a hugely successful TV show has been accused of molesting the child star of the show from the time she was about 8 .The child is now an adult and has made the accusations.

One sees this merde in the media on what seems to be almost a daily basis. It seems reasonable to ask: "Has child abuse become rampant in our society, compared with say when I was a child in the 1950's"

My perception;NO. What has changed is awareness together with a reduced level of tolerance and denial by the community, victims and enablers . Today victims can receive help, support and redress at law which simply did not exist. [in my country] 50 years ago. Until recent years, the arrest, conviction and gaoling of paedophiles was rare in this country. Today it is common.

OK. Those who do not wish to read a joke offensive to paedophile preists please look away now.

Toilet of an Irish boys catholic boarding school. Two preists having a piss. One glances down at his colleagues todger and seees he has stuck a nicotine patch on it.

"Oi dont tink you're supposed to stick dem patches on there, father Patrick."

"Oh, to be sure father Seamus, it's working fine. Oi'm down to two butts a day"

And now the Turin Shroud's going to be on display next month, 15 years earlier than planned. Gotta love the Zinger's cynicism.

I feel strangely guilty for laughing at an inappropriate joke now! Ah! The far reaching power of Catholicism....!

Not going away (the abuse story) as quickly as they might have liked, is it...?

Don't worry, smudge. God's gone on holiday to Canes Venatici for a few million years.

We'll all be safely dead by the time she returns.

I might set up a blog called "Inappropriate joke of the day" .
I already have loads of jokes I tell, that make me cringe when I hear them.
It would be nice to have some based on current events.

    Great idea!
All those in favor of an "inappropriate joke of the day thread" say "wibble".
