For some reason,I missed the very beginning, and only began watching the current series here, which I think is series 6. A great series. I enjoy it so much I've obtained series 1,2,and 3 on disc. Last night I began watching series 3. I allow myself an episode a night.
After watching a lot of episodes,it occurred to me that there are similarities with my favourite TV series ever; 'Yes Minister/ Yes Prime Minister' --Both are set within the world of upper government, and both present a scurrilously cynical view of the way government actually works.
A conflict theorist, those shows reflect my own view of politics. [and business] As a civil servant, 'Yes Minister' often made me cringe.
A cynic is what an idealist calls a realist. (Sir Humphrey Appleby)
'Yes Minister' was brilliant - the very best political satire ever produced IMO, because it was all done with such gentle, mischievous humour.
'Spooks' is also brilliant, although for very different reasons as far as I'm concerned; it's so nerve-racking that I have to brace myself to watch each episode.
