BBC TV Joanne Harris attacks faith schools : available until Monday 8th March

people in the UK have until Monday 7pm * to watch an interesting item from BBC Inside Out (Yorks and Humber edition)
Author Joanne Harris asks if we really need faith schools
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00r5dl3 from BBC Yorks and Humber
    - I couldn't believe they got away with this ..as it's like a 10 minute advert against faith schools. The happiest school she visits is the government school which is quite open about breaking the law which requires government schools to have an assembly of collective Christian worship everyday (the law is an anachronism cos the vast majority of British people never go to church and in this school (like many others) 30% of the children are from ethnic minorities)
-"Joanne Harris, author of the bestselling novel Chocolat, has very strong views on the role of faith schools in society.
She believes they are outdated, divisive and that our taxes should not be used to fund them...... "

    * It might be broadcast again in another region as segments from the regional programme Inside Out are often broadcast a week or two later in the Inside Out of a different region ... 7.30pm Mondays.. listings on www.bbc.co.uk/insideout (The Sky satellite carries all BBC regions so I use it to watch different regional editions)

Good for her, and for the BBC in broadcasting it.

Of course, the reactions to these criticisms from the middle-class supporters of faith schools will be roughly as follows:

"outdated" = great, none of those failed modern teaching methods. If it was good enough for our ancestors...

"divisive" = wonderful; we don't want our precious darlings mixing with the great unwashed from the council estates.

"taxes should not be used to fund them." Why not? We pay all the damn taxes after all, we should decide what they're spent on!

And what is wrong with following a 2000 year old syllabus exactly?
