I did notcie some of the comments - she seems quite popular but my understanding is she is becoming more mainstream popular in her recording tastes - which is upsetting some people.

When someone is promoting the evil of Lloyd Webber I step in just as I would if someone was promoting homeopathy or Icke.

I think you'll find that I haven't posted on most of the threads; including the breast feeding dogs thread. I leave threads like that for those with experience...

Well, the issue was more about the performances rather than the material - but no matter.

I REALLY should be off. But, when are sentimental performances "required"? And what is "over done"?

Does it come down to "taste", whatever that is. I don't hate sentiment, just sentimental performances when applied to it.

I love to wallow in Puccini, and Strauss. They were masters of their art. Lloyd Webber has been highly successful, made loads of money, and has written a few nice tunes. I am not a great fan, not that it matters.

    .

I guess it does come down to taste yes. I'm no fan of LW per-se, but some of the performances above i thought were very good.

Is it not possible to separate the artist from the art? To take your logic another step forward, Wagner had some pretty dubious political views but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy his music.

    Yes but, no but...

Separating artist and art is always a grey area isn't it? Personally I can't enjoy the music of Joy Division because the lead singer was an active member of the NF and the band's name is a very nasty concentration camp reference. But, yes, I can enjoy Wagner, which is perhaps inconsistent.

Generally I find Lloyd Webber's music to be bland and familiar. It's unpleasant in a similar way to Cowell or Waterman and their attempts to make everything in popular music safe and middle-of-the-road.

Art should be interesting and make you think. Not dull and make you sleep.
