I thought this was going to be about 'Don't stop believing'. At least three versions doing the rounds at the mo! (personally torn between Journey and the Glee Cast)

Before I watch your youtoobs Dr B, can you promise me none of them is that Michelle girl from Big Brother.......that made me want to kill my TV.

Dr B - of the 2 vocal versions, I prefer the Norwegian woman. I'd never heard of her before, but it is a lovely voice. The trouble with that Lloyd Webber piece is that it just invites the precious, sentimental performances, and it is sentimental enough. There are hundreds of versions on YouTube to listen to, if anyone has the stomach.

For me, it is the "keep it simple" approach I like. And I quite like this.....

Lots of people raving about her apparently. I like them both and at different times in the piece I prefer the delivery of different singers. Odd that. The most awful version I've seen is Ms Brightman (or at least one version of her)

I totally agree - but one should never be shy of sentimental performances when required (as long as its not over done). I feel inspired to find other examples and pit them head to head....for all your opinions.

I like the choir too, and agree about over doing sentimentality. OK do the head to head bit, but please no Charlotte Church!

Agreed. I also found a version by Jose Carreras. Well, I'll be diplomatic and just say it is not my cup of tea. Just couldn't make myself post a link.....

I do think that Hayley girl in my OP is tremendous - she was only 16 at that time - a real talent to watch.

Yes over-performed in parts, but experience will bring confidence

    more evidence

I don't have to choose between them do I? I suppose if the proverbial gun was against my head I'll go for Hayley Westenra. Talking of which did you notice the comments on You Tube?

That's like asking me the best type of dog shit to step in. Although technically there has to be one, there isn't really a best, just varying degrees of worse. I don't want to step in any dog shit. I don't want to listen to any bland shit by Lloyd Webber.

Oh dear oh dear Bob, you have no soul

Gladly music is subjective and so we can agree to differ. Personally, I can just enjoy the beauty for it's own sake.

Then why not just ignore the thread and say it's not for you? I do that all the time around here.
