There is no way the British lottery is fair, Camelot has it fixed, How many times have you seen hundreds of winners of the big prize and only a few winners of the £10 prize. You havent. cause its fixed that there will be hundreds of tickets printed for tenner prizes and 1 or 2 tickets printed for main prize, thats how Camelot can tell immediately if its a rollover, they must have a list of all winning tickets thats only way they can proove which tickets are genuine. plus when its a rollover, we have to buy another ticket to play for same lottery because its already been arranged no main prize winners because no tickets printed for to win.
if you dont agree,Explain
Why there is hundreds of tickets for £10s.
And only 1 or 2 tickets for the big main prize.
The British Lottery isnt fair, but is Fixed
Its down to the odds of winning.
To win £10 you need to match any 3 balls out of the six drawn. This has odds of around 1 in 56.
To win the jackpot you need to match all 6 balls drawn. This has odds of around 1 in 14 million.
You see the difference there?
Let me say that for you again just to make sure it sinks in.
Odds of winning £10 are 1 in 56.
Odds of winning Jackpot are 1 in 14 million.

5 numbers + Bonus ball – 1 : 2,330,365
6 numbers – 1 : 13,983,815
I stopped playing the Lottery, I can make more by putting it into the bank at 0.50% interest. The Lottery is a farce.
I agree, but it seems that for some prominent skeptics logic goes completely out the window when it comes to the lottery. Some considerable time ago I happened to mention on this forum that "I don't waste my money on the lottery - I don't think a true skeptic could do otherwise" - and I was challenged on that point from a very surprising quarter. He was, of course, quite wrong - quite irrational in fact - but he isn't a mathematician, so I can forgive his confusion.![]()
I play occasionally. You won't be laughing when I post to the forum from the beach at Barbados.![]()
From a purely statistical point of view you are right, the lottery is a waste of time. However, the lottery is not just about winning the jackpot, there is also the thrill of anticipation that you just might win a price. There are many things in life which, if we break them down, are just not worth the money, for instance I am currently spending money on getting drunk. This will not lead to any significant gains in my life but will give me enjoyment. Similarly with the lottery, if you enjoy playing (and on the caveat that you don't start spending more than you can afford fishing for the elusive big win) then I see no reason why not to throw a couple of quid its way each month.
