    Re: About this section

Well, it took me a few weeks but I'm back...

Seriously, I wonder if anyone would like to comment on something that happened to me last year. I don't know if there's a name for what I experienced but I think it might shed some light on reports of hauntings and alien abductions.

I was on holiday at the time, staying in a room which is very familiar to me as I visit the same B&B at least twice a year. I was lying in bed, in the dark and with the curtains closed, but still very much awake (or so I thought). Then it gradually occurred to me that I didn't know if my eyes were open or shut. When I looked towards the window at the end of the bed there seemed to be too much light coming in for my eyes to be closed, but after a few seconds I saw the silhouettes of enormous beetles and lizards crawling over the glass. At some level I knew this was impossible so my eyes couldn't be open either! This went on for several minutes and despite making a conscious effort to do so I still couldn't work out if my eyes were open or shut. Then the insects and lizards gave way to what looked like an ariel view of a medieval town, all pitched roofs and narrow streets. The episode only ended when I sat up in bed and turned the light on for a few seconds, after which I fell asleep.

The whole thing was completely unlike sleep paralysis, which I've also experienced.

Completely consistent with the sort of dreams I have every morning between first waking and actually getting up.

Yes ... but there really are giant beetles and lizards on your window ...

Looks like a typical dream within a dream. I'm sure I've counted at least three layers that I've had to wake up through on occasions. This usually happens if some inconsiderate person rings the door bell while I'm still asleep. Naturally my reaction is to get out of bed and put on a dressing gown then grab the keys and head for the door. I know I'm really still asleep when putting on any piece of clothing, however loose, is like trying to put on a wet suit ... pulling against something elastic all the time. If I spot this symptom I can sometimes force myself to wake up one more layer, and I might even get to the door before the postman or whoever it is has given up and gone away.
Be skeptical of the things you believe are false, but be very skeptical of the things you believe are true.

Not me! My natural reaction is they can come back when I'm up if it's important.
