Saw a piece on this on telly this morning where a halfwit presenter equated reports of lights in the sky with alien spaceships. Also an article in the morning newspaper seriously reporting rubbish such as two schoolboys seeing "lemon-head" aliens and two revellers at Glastonbury festival who thought they saw a "UFO". There's also a photo in the paper of a tiny little white spot blown up to make it look odd, which could be absolutely anything but is unlikely to be distant from the camera.
Looks like there'll be another UFO flap in the coming weeks with the same old bollocks in the media all over again. Another chance for Nick "Britain's Fox Mulder" Pope to lie about and promote himself.
Have just realized it's August silly season of course, but was only just reading THIS from the BBC as well, presumably one of the stories from the archive.
From BBC report above:
"Lord Hill-Norton's letter said either a craft had entered UK airspace with impunity or US airmen were capable of a "serious misperception". "
When will people finally realise that EVERYONE, including trained observers, is capable of misperception. One of the favourite themes in ufology at present is looking for reports from aircrew and other highly trained individuals. The idea is that these people should know everything in the sky and can never be fooled. This is so wrong! They will certainly recognise a lot more than the general public but can still be fooled by novel aircraft, unusual meteorological or astronomical events, etc.
If Rendlesham had happened somewhere else and involved just everyday members of the public, it would be long forgotten by now as the not particularly significant UFO event it really is.
The ubiquitous Daily Mail comment:

I don't give 2 hoots who believes me. All I want to know is who is gonna protect us from them? As far as I can tell - no one can. From what I have heard they take people up into their ships and basically torture them and steal their eggs or sperm for breeding purposes. Couldnt the government offer them donations of sperm and or eggs and supervised experiments so they can experiment - surely this would make abductions and the pyscological effect less traumatic. It is disgusting how the government have kept this from us for so long. We need to know whats going on. The government are people and we are people - I am sure we are all scared deep down. Or are they people??? who knows. Good luck when you see one - cos no one will believe you and it makes one feel very sad about mankind that no one believes anyone else and would rather call you insane than try to listen.

I wish I hadn't. That Daily Mail article is even more pathetic than the other coverage (what did I expect?). A photo of the "alien autopsy" alien captioned: "The Roswell incident in New Mexico: A shot of an alleged genuine alien autopsy dollowing the crash of a spaceship in 1947". Utterly shite lack of basic journalism.
There is no obvious difference between reports collected by the MOD and those investigated by ufologists. So there is no obvious need to draw any new conclusions!
