A very early version of the Bible (the Codex Sinaiticus) will be appearing on line:

Those that take the Bible literally will have a another version earlier than the King James to consider. Which one is to be believed? It probably won't make a lot of difference to those with religious faith one way of the other, I suspect.
Considering that any version of the Bible has its own internal inconsistencies (compare the creation stories in Genesis 1 and 2) I don't suppose inconsistencies between versions would interest anyone but skeptics.
The KJV Bible and its inerrancy has been mention before. it is worth clarifying that to some of the US fundies and other nutters such as the Paisley crowd (Free Presbytarian Church of Ulster) only the KJV Bible is the true word of God. All earlier versions contain errors. After all, God IS English.
So pointing out translation mistakes, editorial changes, etc, is irrelevent to these people as that was all the will of God to them.
The wiki page here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King-James-Only_Movement doesn't have much info.

Quoting the BBC story: "The Codex - and other early manuscripts - omit some mentions of ascension of Jesus into heaven, and key references to the Resurrection, which the Archbishop of Canterbury has said is essential for Christian belief."
When reading any BBC "news" item that is not clearly about current affairs, it is worth checking for side boxes or a paragraph at the end like ...
In other words, a disguised advert for a radio or TV programme.Roger Bolton presents the Oldest Bible on Radio 4 on Monday, 6 October, at 1100 BST
Playing 'devils' advocate here, but is there no scientific book, research paper etc that was found to have errors or inconsistancies in it? Or proved later to be hokum, or disbelieved by the scientific community?
Considering all the translations of the bible, the fact the 'stories', parables etc may have been handed down by word of mouth first, then translated, then translated again and again, it's not suprising there are errors. Also the age of the codex's they are trying to decipher make reading them hard because of wear and tare.
