I was told when I was in Saudi Arabia a few years ago that this sort of thing still happened there from time-to-time but to read it cold like that - very disturbing.

Yes the religion of peace and love where a young girl can be raped then stoned to death or a child can be killed for the families honour.
Where people can be beaten to death in the street on the whim of possibly being guilty of something.

There's more factors involved than just religion, like no state, and grinding poverty.
When people say they are pro anarchy I've been known to suggest that they go live somewhere without a government - a truly free country of their dreams.
In terms of what happens to people and lives in Somalia losing a couple of hands is hardly the worst of it.
The Louis Theraux programme when he was in South Africa, they basically had people trying to burn each other for allegedly criminal acts. That was the standard punishment.
Just mob mentality.
