    Skeptical Research Opportunities

    Good Evening,

I recently contacted the UK-Skeptics contact centre with a question, and it was suggested that I should join the forum and pose my query here - Thank you in advance for any advice!

I was wondering whether anyone has any information about opportunities for skeptical research in the UK?

I am a UK graduate in Psychology and Sociology with a passion for both understanding how and why logical fallacies and psuedo-scientific beliefs arise in individuals and groups, and what the more effective method is to combat these beliefs, and promote critical thinking.

I have trawled the internet looking for PhD opportunities, but as yet I have not found an institution that seems quite right to apply to. I was wondering whether you had any information, or if you could point me in the right direction as to where I should enquire?

    Thanks for your help,

    Ruth

Thanks! I would love to, although the drive from Kent does seem a little daunting.. The event looks fantastic though, so I'm very tempted.

Hi, Ruth, and welcome to the madhouse ...

Perhaps this is the obvious answer and you have already checked this ... but ... have you tries the Anomalistic Psychology Unit at Goldsmith's College, University of London, run by our good skeptic friend, Prof Chris French? If they can't offer you a place, they should at least know where else you should look.

Edit: I see you are from Kent, so Goldsmith's would be ideal (New Cross, on the A2).

    Hey,

I already checked Goldsmith's Anomalistic Psych Unit, which looked ideal. However, Prof French's name didn't appear on their list of supervisors and research projects - but I think it will probably still be worth writing to him to enquire.

Thanks :) Yet another reason to come to the conference!
