    Controlling the internet

    http://www.tomshardware.com/news/oba...tion,7478.html

A legislation proposed on April 1 is no joke. The proposed bill would grant President Obama the authority to shut down public and private networks -- including the restriction of internet traffic -- as part of a cybersecurity emergency plan.
Does not make me happy, I'm more or less against any and ALL regulation of the Internet.

Freedom on the internet is already being eroded all the time. Politicians instinctively don't like the internet because it bypasses their news management and leads to things like the Guido Fawkes blog (have you seen this?).

I assume the e-mail of every politician will be kept too? But of course those will be protected by copyright, while they lose everyone else's private information.

BTW I absolutely love being a cynic. (hint: sarcasm)

The Internet used to be good, you could get anything any information freely. Now every where you look someone is trying to sell you something and the information is also for sale and is not as free as it once was.
I used to get driver software free of charge far any computer part now I have to pay for this service, pictures, stories even a simple foot chart my partner tried to get a couple of weeks ago.
The government may be trying to control the internet but business got here first.

    Re: Controlling the internet

I think the internet is seen as a threat by politicians and other rulers. It allows ordinary people to talk and discuss things (eg. politics) on a wide range. The internet makes it even possible to crowd together. Maybe even to organize any anti-government movement or demonstrations. And that's possible very fast too.
Also news about any firm can be published.

Whilst the journalists at the TV or at the papers still have to write what their boss wants them to write, the internet does allow everybody to publish his opinion.
