I had an experience last night - possibly prompted by this thread! I thought I heard a very distinct and loud knock on the door (why are these things always so loud?). I then realised I was sitting in a chair half asleep and there was no knock st all, as others present can confirm. Interestingly, it wasn't just ANY knock, it was specifically the sound of the front door just a few metres away. These hallucinations are so real and detailed, it's no wonder people take them so seriously.
