Actually, something similar happened to me this weekend - my brother and I argue all the time over all sorts as he'll believe pretty much anything and try to convince me it's true.

This weekend, it was the turn of the "Jewish Conspiracy" and how the Jewish community control everything.

I left him reeling at the vicious barb of my witty riposte and walked away.

I think there are times when such a reply is the only one available. :(

To be a reasonable skeptic who's willing to debate and discuss issues, we need people who are just as willing as we are. Sadly, too many people are swayed by fallacious reasoning.

Thank you! The whole article is about 3 times that length, hopefully it'll be published soon so I'll link to it when it is.

I am a marketing copywriter by trade, amongst other things, but I'm wandering into editorial more and more, it's very enjoyable to write.

I've even done a little fiction but that's a whole other animal. Rowr!

When I was at university, I had a housemate who was from Taiwan. He once plainly said that there was an international conspiracy through which Jews rule the world. The only possible answer popped instantly into my mind.

"Well, Wai ... you'd better be nice to me then, hadn't you?"

Wai didn't understand why everybody laughed.

I've had the same thing (not from Wai, of course). I react in a similar fashion, it's actually pretty funny to see people unsure if you really are secretly running the country.
