Thread: Do you ever play in the bad kids' sandpit?

Do you ever play in the bad kids' sandpit?

So, I've spend an inordinate amount of time (several minutes) over the past two weeks at the David Icke .com forum. Don't worry, I've neither lost my marbles nor gone looking for a fight. I just go to these places trying to drum up interest in Leicester SitP.

    Has anyone ever been there?
Jeez Louise, if you're ever stuck for things to write about on our fine forum, just pop over the fence and drop in on pretty much any thread at random.
It's so confusing, so muddled, so completely inconsistent. I can't make head nor tale of anything - it's continuously overrun with new threads, ideas, conspiracies, counter-conspiracies, etc. etc. all completely (or seemingly) unrelated to anything and everything else. Theres just no ... continuity to any of it.
And it's MASSIVE! Makes the JREF forums look positively average in size.

    It makes my head hurt.

Sorry, I just needed to get that out of my system.

I read RaptureReady for a bit, most of the time with my mouth hanging open out of incredulity. Never tempted to partake as other sceptics were usually only allowed to post once or twice before being booted.

I've just been to look at the Ickers' forum. I'll wash the inside of my head later.

To be honest, it made me sad that there are so many people who are so confused and paranoid, who have such a weak grasp on reality.

It also made me laugh quite a bit. Especially the post about Gwen Stefani and Angelina Jolie being reptilians.

How many posts over there are serious, do you think?

Just once, it is a shocking place. It hurt my head too, just too much, too much.

I've not been there, but it sounds fun.

That RaptureReady forum is something else. I particularly like their Master List of Apostasy/Heresy/Anathema, aka shit list. On it you will find the usual suspects – Matthew Fox, Carl Jung – and a couple of surprises. Rupert Sheldrake! What's he doing there? Come to think of it, he's probably also on the UK-Skeptics' shit list .

Then you get to the bottom, and it's a long way down, and someone has pencilled in: "and I'll add another dangerous one: Peter Greig!"

I had to look him up and, sure enough, he's a harmless old duffer. He started the 24/7 Prayer Movement. Clearly evil, then.

Why 'bad kids' sandpit'? Isn't 'bad' a moral concept?

It can be, but not allways, and what would it matter if it were?

Because that would be equating such things as beliefs and ignorance with being 'bad'. I don't think it follows at all.

That would very much depend on what one ment by "bad".

Look at me, start a thread then don't log in for 6 days!

I think that most of the people there I've seen come across as serious in their posts. I don't pretend to understand many of them, but well...

And the thread title is just a bit of fun; a metaphor, if you will. Really, nothing worth getting het up about!

Ickes forum is really bizarre, I originally thought that a lot of them where just in it "For teh Lulz", until I found they were actually being serious.

I have only posted a couple of times (discarding the ones that were deleted because I asked a question or provided evidence to the contrary) and found that I am a definate Left Brained sheeple however given the alternative I'll take it as a complement

And the sand in that sand pit is a bit too sharp for them, maybe we should fill it with sponge balls

Re: Do you ever play in the bad kids' sandpit?

I post fairly regularly on a Rennes le Chateau / Holy Grail board for nutters. I am tolerated by the owner as I do not post "this is bollox" on every thread, I try to stick to arguing with the half-rational members on specific points where I think I might get somewhere. Also, I am tolerated as pet skeptic because I am not "Paul Smith" the No. 1 debunker of Holy Blood Holy Grail Da Vinci rubbish, who is so obnoxious that no other skeptic gets on with him, let alone the loonies. I feel that there is value in what I do as an open minded casual surfer may see my contribution and be exposed to the idea that there is skepticism and that all the conspiracies and alternative history are not universally accepted as fact by people who have looked into it.

I surfed the Icke site a few years back, places like that aren't worth the effort. The people posting are either beyond help or just having a laugh (I suspect that many of them are not actually serious at all). I doubt that even if we all tried taking it in turns to register and post common sense on a daily basis it would help one person to see a different side of the picture.

As you know, it's not like me to nitpick, but I have to say:

Back to picking nits - what's the time period (threads accumulate over time), are guests and users the same thing, one day and one time are not the same thing...

This doesn't answer the question - are there more or fewer loonies...??
