Thread: Cause and effect?

    Cause and effect?

I once read of the economist who stated that Christmas was always caused by the increase of consumer expenditure in the two months beforehand. The statistical coincidence, it seems, was too strong for it to be otherwise...

Does anyone else know of similar barmy claims about cause-and-effect or proof? They can be serious or ironic...

    Best wishes, David

God must exist because it says so in the Bible, and the Bible is the authoritative word of God...

There is a statistically significant link between the decline in the number of pirates and rising global temperatures.

I know someone who had *insert name of self-limiting illness here*, tried homeopathy and soon got better.

That's not so different from what they say in other religions. GW denialists like pointing out that at glaciation terminations, the temperature started rising 800 years before CO2 levels did. Therefore warming causes CO2 to rise, and not the reverse.

The whole philosophy behind Rhonda Byrne's "The Secret" and "The Law of Attraction" is that you can make yourself rich by first thinking and living as if you were rich. That you can heal yourself by thinking yourself as healthy.

If this is not too indulgent then there are few here

I quite like the one that says that so many blues singers are blind (Blind Willie McTell, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Jeff Healy, Ray Charles) then singing the blues must make you blind.
