Some believers in mystical energy feel that the crystal skulls have a broad range of powers. They can be used to aid in divination, in healing, and even psychic communication. Others claim that they have refractive properties unlike other crystals. They are said to remain at exactly 70 degrees no matter what temperature they are exposed to. They possess spiritual auras that can be photographed. Some even speculate that when all the crystal skulls are brought together, it will bring about the end of the world.Analysis of the cut and polish marks by electron microscope proved that they were made using 19th century rotary cutting tools, identical to those in use in Idar and Oberstein at that time. The British Museum now lists their skull as "probably European, 19th century," and "not an authentic pre-Columbian artifact."

Reminds me of a friend's tale from a Glastonbury shop.
Whilst browsing for a present, he witnessed the conversation of the shop-owner selling a crystal (ie glass) skull to a tourist "...very rare... ...only one I've had in ages... ...not sure when I'll get a replacement..."
The tourist bites, buys skull and leaves.
The shopkeeper, who's seen my friend smiling at the sales patter, winks, reaches under the counter, and pulls out a identical one skull to put back on the shelf.
In a funny way, that's slightly encouraging. At least the shopkeeper isn't a believer. One sensible (if dishonest) person out of two ain't bad.
A less-than-honest purveyor of woo? I find that hard to believe.
