Astrologers fail to predict proof they are wrong

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main...7/nstars17.xml

Dr Dean and Prof Kelly also sought to determine whether stargazers could match a birth chart to the personality profile of a person among a random selection. They reviewed the evidence from more than 40 studies involving over 700 astrologers, but found the results turned out no better than guesswork.

The success rate did not improve even when astrologers were given all the information they asked for and were confident they had made the right choice.
Dr Dean said the consistency of the findings weighed heavily against astrology.

"It has no acceptable mechanism, its principles are invalid and it has failed hundreds of tests," he said. "But no hint of these problems will be found in astrology books which, in effect, are exercises in deception."

It only takes a 5 minute look at the reasoning behind astrology to see it is a load of crap, but it is very annoying that people like that awful Russel Grant and the loony Jonathan Cainer are making a fortune by writing amazing rubbish like this:- my "reading" for today.
"Limitations and restrictions. Rules, regulations, orders, instructions, protocols and precedents. Are all these rather daunting words creating a sense of dread? Somewhere in your life now, you are up against a bunch of 'reasons why not'. You are half inclined to give in to them. Who are you to fight against so many convincing negative arguments? You are you! You are more powerful than you realise. If you believe that the answer to a key question ought to be 'yes', then you can make it yes. Oh, one more thing before I let you go back to the rest of the internet. It's a wild world out there.
    I rest my case.

That link didn't work for me for some reason.

Try this one (sorry I can't post it in a linkable form yet--my username is too new).

Geoffrey Dean is a good fellow. He has spent a good few years documenting scientific research into astrological predictions, and carried out quite a bit of research himself. He once gave a talk to Skeptics in the Pub in London (when we were still meeting at the Florence Nightingale pub on the south side of Wesminster Bridge).

The heading to this thread reminds me of lots of signs I saw up in Manchester many years ago, directing delegates to a conference of psychics. I couldn't help wondering why they were necessary...
