It seems that dowsers have unearthed an important find
From our local rag:

Note how the rag has boldly announced the find before any proper investigation has been done.
They thank quantum physics (of course) and magnetic fields. Why not say instead that it was their own archeological skill and knowledge, used to spot a likely place, coupled with good luck? I think they're doing themselves down.
If this is a genuine find, which is far from clear, then one has to be suspicious about what part dowsing has actually played in it. It may just be the case that the newspaper has zeroed in on the dowsing aspect of it because it makes good copy.
Having checked with the County Council Archeology department they have not even been notified of the find to date or asked for assistance which leaves me thinking that the whole thing is highly dubious in any event.
Methinks someone in the Writtle archeological community is a fan of TC Lethbridge.![]()
Indeed, according to the story they've found a site, but have yet to "check the existence of the woodhenge, which they believe dates from the New Stone or Bronze Ages, or which could be a 3,000-year-old settlement or enclosure."
So it seems that they think they've found something but they're not sure exactly what it is or even if it exists.
Well, at least they know where it is, so presumably anything found there will be a hit.
Perhaps they'll turn out to have developed a foolproof method of dowsing for earth.
