New agers interpreted it as an apocalyptic vision, then all of the conspiracy hunters went looking for the number 2012 in the bible and every other religous book. Then some of the psychics claimed that they couldn't see past the year 2012.

Just for fun I want to make some predictions about the next few years, from now until 2012.
May 2008 - Toxic Fish cases will surface in the Eastern world, infected by a new virus from Plastic.
June 2008 - Petrol will reach £1.15 per liter.
July 2008 - Queen of England signs the last Constitutional right giving way to the EU control and policing of England.
August 2008 - The first cases of people becoming ill from eating fish will surface in the Eastern world.
September 2008 - Iran will be seen to be helping Hezbholla militants and "proof or intelligence of this will emerge".
October 2008 - American soilders will take places in the Gaza Strip along side Israel's soldiers.
November 2008 - Meaning there are more targets in the Gaza Strip more violence will break out, Iran will get the blame.
December 2008 - A Terrorist attack will take place in the Western world for events in Israel.
January 2009 - Shock and Ore 2 will take place against Iran
February 2009 - The First cases of Toxic fish making ill Westerners will emerge.
March 2009 - The CSPI will be given control of the food and nutrition.
April 2009 - The EU FBI will be set up within Europe.
May 2009 - ID Cards will be rolled out to most Government and public facing organizations in Europe.
June 2009 - Iran & Iraq will join in an effort to over through occupation in their lands from the USA, Israel will join America in combating this.
July 2009 - Planet X will be seen in the Southern areas of the world and be passed off as a Comet.
August 2009 - Bird Flu and Toxic Fish Flu will be wide spread, along side Foot and Mouth outbreaks.
September 2009 - The CSPI will strip out all animal proteins from food replacing with chemical alternatives.
October 2009 - A Holy War will be declared by the Eastern Arab states.
November 2009 - The Holy War riots will take place within the Western world, with Muslims taking action on the streets in protest leading to violence.
December 2009 - Turkey for Xmas wont be in the shops due to food being contaminated by various flu's and viruses.
January 2010 - Planet X will be seen by almost half the Globe we will be told the planet is a passing Comet.
February 2010 - People will start getting ill due to not having a stable diet and nutrition in their foods. Becoming depressed, tired and run down... Morgellons will also be world wide spread.
Things will stay like this for sometime...
Until around 2011...
April 2011 - Nukes are fired upon Iran and Iraq, but in small charges, chemical sprays will be thrown over the fall out to help disperse the effects.
May 2011 - There will be massive World debt and poverty, food Shortages and high prices of living.
June 2011 - The Clean up of the Middle East will take place.
(Obviously people world wide will be dieing from mal-nutrition right now and wont care much about events happening over seas if it's helping feed them).
Again not much will be happening over than the above right now
January 2012 - America put a an idea to the UN and EU for a one world Government being that the world population has fallen to almost 75%
The NEW WORLD ORDER WILL ARISE
February 2012 - Their first public announcement will be the "Comet approaching is said to be a Planet, and all funding has to go into a method of protecting mankind.
From February to November all efforts for a method of Defense will fail and the world population will reach 1.5 billion.
At this point Underground bunkers will be made available to the fittest and most likely to help keep the Human race alive.
The rest will be left top side to face a Pole Shift in December 2012.
December 2012 - End of Mankind as we know it.

No first aid kits, no vac-sealed, dehydrated food, no insect repellent (all that water will bring in the mozzies), no synthetic twine (you can never go wrong with string), no snare wire, no broad spectrum antibiotics, no pain killers, no multiple jerry cans of fuel, no cigarettes or chocolate (trade items) and how are you going to hunt for food? Harsh language?! Bow's, shotguns, knives and catapults are all easily available within the law and a well trained hunting dog, or even ferrets, are worth their weight in fresh rabbits
