    Petition to the Prime Minister

Can't remember how or why I started looking for this (ETA: ah, I see now that it was SWIFT), but I was pleased to see that a petition about clear labelling on alternative medicine products already exists.
    http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/altmedicinediscl/

I was, however, disappointed to see that there were only 24 signatures on it, so I thought it could do with some wider promotion.

    Anyone?

Aye, me neither. But if you don't try, you don't get, I suppose.

    Thanks.

    Also Signed,

I think the main benefit of these petitions is that it forces someing in the Prime Minister's office to compose a reply.

Thus it's a way to help us keep informed about the issues that interest us.

I look forward to seeing what they have to say about this.

a minor quibble, bu these aren't actually dealt with by the PMs office- they get passed to the relevant department (DOH in this instance, possibly with a contribution from BERR or whatever DTI call themselves this week).

The PM will have to sign the response off, but the chances of him actually reading it are slim at best.

Having put my name on a number of these in the past, my perception is that the larger the number of signatories, the faster the reply comes. Also, it would appear to increase the length of the response and the amount of detail they feel necessary to force people to sit down, shut up and accept whatever they're told with a smile and a polite "thank you O Almighty Ruler".

Oops, went ever-so-slightly 1984 for a moment then...
