Anybody else bored with the contents of their iPod?
Tell me what you like please.
What other music might you recommend to someone who likes:
Beatles, Kinks, Stones, Monkees, Elliott Smith, Amy Winehouse, Tom Waits, The Divine Comedy, REM (well, earlier REM), Paul Simon, Simon and Garfunkel, The Stone Roses and who might occasionally be prepared to admit to owning 3 Sugababes tracks.
Could I have my Ipod back please(But remove the Sugarbabes first
)
We seem to have similar tastes - have you tried my all time favourite Nick Cave?
I don't have an iPod.
Shhhhh.
Well OK Bindeweede, your vinyl collection then.
Elliot Smith
How about a band called Grandaddy? They are one of my favourites and have just broken up recently-ish.
If you like Elliot Smith, I'd recommend Jeff Buckley, particularly the Grace album. Or a more modern equivalent might be Rufus Wainright.
Or try the last few Johnny Cash albums American III, IV and V. An amazing man in the last years of his life.
A great website for sampling different music similar to your own tastes is www.pandora.com. Add in a few of your favourite artists and it will recommend others which you can give a thumbs up/down.

What's an iPod?
I tell you what, I had one of those naughty file sharing things and I downloaded all sorts of music that I wouldn't buy in a million years. Doris Day, The Mitch Miller Band, The Springfields, and all sorts of odd, one-off things you occasionally hear on the radio.
I now have a very eclectic music collection!![]()
.
Thanks FarSide, those are some good suggestions. Jeff Buckley is one of those I've-been-meaning-to ones.
Do you still have pretend you're an American to use Pandora? I did have a couple of stations on there a while back. I wanted something like Lemon Jelly crossed with Free Salute by Little Barrie- I'm very specific!
I saw a song by Regina Spektor on YouTube which I quite liked, so I might go down that route and see where it takes me...I'm a little concerned she might be slightly too self-consciously quirky for my taste, a la Bjork or Tori Amos.
Doris Day! Do you have Once I Had A Secret Love from Calamity Jane? I used to love that as a kid. Can't beat a bit of Doris. Why does that sound like a euphemism?
Great stuff y'all, keep it coming.

Perhaps I can add my little bit. I love a good female voice, singing in any style. I fell in love with the voice of Eva Cassidy a couple of years ago, when I discovered it. Norah Jones is good too, and today I heard something by K.D. Lang for the first time.. Also have Katie Melua cd's, but I'm not so sure about her material - too much Mike Batt?
But then there are the classics......Peggy Lee, Ella, Billie...........Roberta Flack, Dinah Washington. Dusty? Aretha?
That's apart from my classical favourites.
I do not know if anyone here likes folk music. I ask because Karine Polwart has the best voice I have come across in years. She sang on two albums with a band called Malinky and it was largely folk but with some original material, and great songs she wrote herself. Then she left that band and did two solo albums, which again show her voice for the wonder it is.
I cannot find anything of good sound quality except this one example done at a tribute to Ewan McColl - the intro is long and she is not alone but it is a good rendition and it does show her voice off well.
I love it, for what little that is worth

I had the sense to get a decent media player instead of an iPod. I currently have about 8GB on it, so it's hard to get bored really. As for recommending music, judging from your selection I can pretty much guarantee you won't like any of mine.
And who is Amy Winehouse? I keep hearing her name everywhere, but I have absolutely no idea who she is or what she does.
