Does my mind reside in an energy field....

    .....generated by my brain?

Just one question asked here, by someone impressed by the skills of Sally Morgan.

Sally had, apparently, been receiving messages from the Princess.

What an idiot. He should do some research on cold reading before jumping to such absurd possible conclusions.

Another 'scientist' who has never heard of Occam's razor.

"Latin maestro", when I read that the author, a PhD, had chosen to move to the world of journalism, my skeptical and cynical bells started to ring. I am sure there are good scientific journalists out there, but how does Joe Public sort the good from the rubbish?

Edit. The author, Danny Penman might be described as a "True Believer", with all that that carries with it.

I've rekindled my interest in the ancient languages

Incidentally, my brother has a degree in neuroscience - but he runs a sports shop now. Before that he worked (alledgedly) in IT and dossed about travelling for a few years.

Scientific qualifications need to be taken with a pinch of salt - it's not that difficult to end up with a science degree, and sometimes the easy option is to stay on and do a phd.

I knew plenty of people who couldn't get jobs who decided to stay on at uni and do phd and Msc, no idea though how many of them actually stayed the course in the end though.

I have several online accredited university doctormalogical degrees, with some Ph.D's in scientificology and physiotics.

I want one of them! Can I have one please? Can I? Can I? I'll give you up to £19.99 - need I say more?

"Scientificology" - sounds super-impressive. Almost as impressive as "Hieronymus Q. Bindeweede's New Theorem of Relativivity" , what I invented last Sunday painting the garden shed. I have communicated with Lord Muck himself, regarding this new revelation. I'll try to keep it simple for you, but it's all about the relationship between relatives and the stress they cause, in proportion to the distance they are from your front door. Sorry, rather complicated.

And "physiotics" is a totally mind-bending crypto-quantum-evolutionary expression. All I could find was a Welsh web site..

For those wanting some online accreditation you can go here

    http://www.thunderwoodcollege.com/chancellor.php

Brian Dunning is a great bloke, I have yet to find fault with his arguments.

    Bob,
Thanks for the great link! I had a quick look earlier on today, but assumed money would need to change hands, so I left it.

I now have a PhD in Feng Shui - with a bit of help from Photoshop, I might be able to shoehorn "Quantum" in there somewhere.

Of course, much more interesting is the Skeptoid blog, which I have only had a short time to explore. Another place to spend more time than I probably should - but a lot better than a "Medium" forum.

No you misunderstand, Brian Dunning is a sceptical podcastor. The creator of the wonderful skeptoid:

    http://skeptoid.com/episode_guide.php

His arguments are excellent, well constructed and he does his research to prove a point. He has a section of the JREF devoted to his efforts. I implore everyone who enjoys the odd podcast to check out his back catalogue.

Thunderwood college is his creation where you can get a diploma in almost anything for nothing. Its as valid as all the other online diplomas, but its entirely free. It is his little joke aimed at showing how useless these accreditations actually are. You get a certificate and everything.

I'm guessing German, since it's a German domain and is written in German.

    Bob,

Sincere apologies. What I wrote was unclear. From the short time I have spent looking at Skeptoid.com, I agree with what you say. I should have said something like......"I will benefit much more from time spent reading the back catalogue, than wasting time on a believers' forum"....so something like that.

A minor case of crossed wires, I hope.

Cuddles - my comment about Welsh wasn't serious. I happen to know a few words of German, the most important of which are "wein und bier".
    Cheers!
