I'm sorry, I'm sure I could find this out by sneaky (or not-so-sneaky) research, but...
I'm in Edinburgh. Occasionally I see something that says 'Meet up for British skeptics!' and I get all excited, but they tend to be down in the depths of England, and I'm poor.
So, are there any meet-ups for Scottish skeptics? Or even, any skeptics in Edinburgh?
I have driven my entire circle of friends and family mad with various debunkings and so on, and I need to talk to people like me!
Alas, Kat, I'm in the same boat! I live in Glasgow, and have long been lamenting the absence of skeptic groups in the West of Scotland.
If you come up with anything in Edinburgh, please let me know. After all, Edinburgh is only an hour away by train.
Sadly, I'm yet to find even one other person who cares (The Husband not included; he has to listen), and it's driving me mental(ler)!
Well I'm in Newcastle so not too far away.
Perhaps we northern folk should get together sometime and leave the southern softies to it.
I'm not aware of any particular groups in Scotland. If we can get this place a bit more popular (it's not doing too badly as the forum has only been up a couple of months) then we might see a few more members from up north and in Scotland.

Kat & JJ,
Lady Muck and I would be very happy to promote skeptic events in nonsouthernsofties areas. 8)
The important questions, however, are whether there enough skeptics about in northern parts and what they are skeptical about.
My pet hates include the promotion of "alternative medicine" such as homoeopathy, acupuncture and earcandling, particularly when this snake oil is being sold to people who are both ill and desperate and poor.
Thoughts, anyone?
I may live in that London, but I'm no southern softie (displaced Northerner).Originally Posted by Lord Muck oGentry
I try and get back to the NW as often as I can (if only for a pint of decent beer).
If there's any meetings in the area, I'm sure I'd try and make it whenever I could.
Hi , I am in Yorkshire and my job takes me to Newcastle on a couple of days most weeks.
Because my entire career has been in proper licenced prescription medicines, the things that get me most are 'alternative therapies' and making insubstantiable medical claims for dietary supplements such as Royal Jelly.
I do not mind complementary therapies as these should be in addition to EBM, evidence based medicine and who wouldnt feel better after an Indian Head Massage?
I too would like to point out that although I've been living in London for the best part of 20 years, I am another displaced Northener (in fact from a bit west of where John is).Originally Posted by vbloke
Actually I found myself with an hour to kill waiting for a train in Newcastle last month. That's a very impressive looking station bar!
I'm a scottish skeptic (clue in my handle, you may observe), but like mojo I'm now resident in the south of Sassenachland :(
Hope you get together a group of like-minded people to debunk with, Kat - and welome, by the way!
I thought you were a horse rider who couldn't spell very well.![]()

I wonder where believers in the paranormal get that charming communication style from? Maybe they all learnt to spell from Molesworth books (if anybody remembers those).
Eny fule kno Molesworth! :)
Forum member chillzero is in Scotland and is organising a day out in Edinburgh at some point (I think she mentioned September). You might wanna PM her here or over at JREF about it.
Me and hubby will try and make it cause we love Edinburgh, but it might clash with our holiday.
Oooh, thanks muchly, tkingdoll! I shall PM her.
(I've had a whole bunch of people staying with me for the last couple of weeks, which has seriously cut into my much-beloved internet time.)
I am split between the west coast of the lake district (family home etc) and here in brum (my home & work) Usually in Cumbria once a month - so i can catch up with most at some point... 8)
