Look forward to hearing more about this tomorrow. Fearless research, I'd call it.

No, of course, I went as an ordinary member of the public. As I was the one who first posted about Gary, I thought I should go - it is only 30 mins on the train.

It was in the last 5 mins that Prof French got onto the microphone - he was quite irate - and challenged Gary about his claims. He asked Gary if he would agree to having his claims tested, and Gary agreed - in public, in front of approx 250 people.

Anyway I've got it all recorded on a wav? file.

I wonder if that was why he was on here earlier? Looking for JJ to set up the test maybe? Sadly there was no-one else about at the time

    Fiona,

I wonder what time he was on here. The demo finished at 8.30 - there was food provided if you could be bothered to stand in the queue. I didn't get home until 10.35, and HAD to catch up on one edition of "Corrie"

I don't feel tired at all - my mind is buzzing, even at 1.10am.

Sorry, bindeweede, I was attempting irony ... I'd have denied being from UKS too

He didn't actually deny it though. He just decided not to confirm it. And why should he? Any reasonable person is perfectly within their rights to choose not to announce the websites they may (or may not) frequent to a public meeting.

There was no active deception on Bindeweed's part, and its a shame the same couldn't be said about Gary.

250 people is a lot. I'd thought there might be 30 or 40 odd people there for such an event. I'm surprised.

Although it does make it a bit clearer why Mannion is persuing this path - that must have been a decent earner for him, several hundred pounds (tax free no doubt) at least.

    Re: "non-evasive psychic surgery"

On January 29th, I emailed the House of Commons Information Office regarding Gary's claim here

    Profile
I have had my abilities all my life but didn't start to become aware of them until I was 13.
Since that time my gifts have developed dramatically.
I have worked as a Psychic Medium in many different ways
    • For a Text Psychic Company
    • On T.V
    • In Person
    • Even at the House of Commons.
    Today, I received this reply..

    Dear Thomas,
    Thanks for your email.
The House of Commons Information Office answers queries about the proceedings, membership and history of the House of Commons.
I can imagine no circumstances in which the services of a 'psychic medium' would be required in the House of Commons.
    I hope this is useful

I wonder if Gary might be able to provide a little more detail.

More detail of last night's demo in preparation.

    Re: "non-evasive psychic surgery"

    OK. Here it is.

Gary Mannion’s Demonstration of Psychic Surgery 04/02/2008

The recording of the demo was made with a new digital voice recorder I bought last week. I was intending to try to transcribe it, but it lasts about an hour and a quarter – transcription would take a huge amount of time. Also, the church being very resonant means some of Gary’s words and some of the questions are not clear. Prof French invited me along to a pub where he’d planned to meet some friends, and a chap from Skeptics In The Pub suggested converting the rather large wav file into an mp3 file and uploading onto UKS. I’ll have to contact John about that.

Gary’s talk was delivered in an informal, amiable way – plenty of jokes. He said that he would invite volunteers up for healing from the whole church, but in fact the 4 or 5 he treated all seemed to come from the front. After 50 minutes or so, my attention started to wander. There was nothing really to look at – Gary laid his hands on the “damaged” area, and continued talking to the audience, and occasionally Abraham, his Spirit Guide.

I was familiar with some of the things Gary said from visiting his various websites. I wasn’t sure how the recording would work out, so I jotted down some of his more interesting comments. Here, they are, in no particular order.
    • Soya milk and goats’ milk are high in oestrogen, which can cause breast cancer.
    • Microwave cookers kill germs but also everything in the food
    • The oranges we buy in the shops are injected with arsenic
    • He is a fan of sea-salt – in America, a dog was drained of its blood, transfused with sea water and went on to live for 9 years
    • Blue algae is good for Alzheimer’s
    • Someone asked what would happen if Abraham didn’t know what condition someone was suffering from or how to treat someone. But Abraham has a bank of 37 doctors and surgeons to refer back to.
    • He said he works with GPs but is unable to name them for professional reasons – but he did mention Dr Gowri Motha -
Manesh Naidoo - Head Physiotherapist for Northwick park Hospital
Dr Glen Davies - Homeopathic Doctor, all of whom he mentioned at the beginning of this thread.
    • He recommended two other Psychic Surgeons – the first I couldn’t catch, but also John of God in the Philippines.
    • Mozart and Einstein were “Indigos”.
    • He is in favour of the new law in April protecting consumers from fraud.
    • People can get healing from just being in the building, without even being touched by Gary.
Throughout the one and a quarter hours, he repeatedly said “just my opinion” or words to that effect.

A friend of mine has edited out the unnecessary stuff at the beginning and end of the recording, and converted it to mp3, but the file is still a large 18Mb. He is in the process of trying to upload it to a website so people can listen/copy, if they REALLY want to. I think 18Mb is too big to email.

The whole demo was videoed and will appear on DVD eventually I presume.

I couldn't read any more after that.

Thanks for the write up though , it is extremely interesting.

Do you think he genuinely believed some (or any) of the crap he came out with?
