    Strange Experience (2)

If anybody has any thoughts on this I'd love to hear them.

Ok, at the risk of sounding completely nuts, i'd love if somebody here can help me with something I saw when I was child. We were visiting our holiday house down by the sea. I was about ten at the time. I was playing out in the back garden on my own when something caught my eye in the farmers field next to the garden. The landscape appeared to be opened up, a bit like the opening of a tent and there were two figures standing in the opening. I stood up and as I did so, it was like the opening was zipped up and there was a loud whooshing noise and that was it, it vanished. I ran inside screaming and according to my parents took about an hour to calm down. I remember feeling terrified but have no idea why. I’ve not been able to forget this in over 30 years and I’d love if someone here had insight into this.

As with all anecdotes like this, childhood memories from decades ago are just not possible to explain. Even ignoring all the problems with memory and perception, there just isn't anywhere near enough information for us to say anything about it.

The most obvious points are that you almost certainly didn't see what you thought you saw, and you definitely don't remember what you think you remember.

Thanks Cuddles, it was worth a try anyway, if only to stop my family slagging me at every opportunity

Could you have lay down in the field and fallen asleep? Then waking up, without giving it much thought, you ran home. A short time later a dream you may have had popped into your head. Thoughts became confused, and you became scared. Then as the years went on you might have remembered it with slight variations in the memory of it.

    random thoughts,

I have had many 'strange' experiences. Some I managed to explain to my own satisfaction after reading about these things. Some other people managed to explain for me, and some remain unexplained.

In the beginning, as a kid, I was afraid of them. As a teenager I was getting pissed off with them. In my early twenties I thought I might be going mad. Then I began to read everything I could get my hands on. Eventually I reached a stage where I didn't care anymore, I just wanted some peace.

To the best of my knowledge I didn't fall asleep. Yes I suppose it's possible but I remember everything about it, I know you can remember dreams as well. I guess it's just one of those things that I'll never really know what it was about. If anything I'd be more inclined to think I mispercieved what I saw, I'd love to be able to work out what it was though. I don't think it's a memory issue, the image hasn't changed in 30 years. My family and friends all call me the elephant (and not just because of my grey wrinkled skin!!).

    Thanks for the thought.

Bit hazy but wasn't 30 years ago around the time of the brutal heatwave? (can't remember if it was '76 or '77)

    EDIT - nevermind, found it

Running around on holiday + heat effects + strange place = minor hallucinations.

Especially given how much less aware our parents were about the dangers of prolonged exposure without protection...

Thanks Mongrel. Who knows it could have been that or my mother's experiments with LSD when she was pregnant. Seriously it could have been a form of heatstroke. It's certainly not a possibility I'd considered before.
