Gordon Smith is right!

Several people have asked me if I can offer any information about Madeline McCann, the little girl who went missing in Portugal. I know that her tragic disappearance has profoundly upset people, and I have been approached by public figures asking if I can help. This is a tough situation, but I know that the only way that it would be right for me to try and help would be to do a sitting for one of her family or a close family friend. Whether or not they chose to make the results of the reading public would be up to them. Imagine the situation if they were to read a quote from me or another medium talking about their daughter in the press. This is only likely to add to their distress and certainly would not be responsible on my part.

I was faced with a similar problem last week when a Greek TV station asked me if I had any information about a missing boy. I asked if the parents had made a request for the sitting and was told that they hadn't, so I explained that I could not help. I know that people are desperate to have news about Madeline and the little Greek boy, but I think that we all have to respect the wishes of those people closest to the missing child. It is also important to remember that it is the link of love that draws the spirits close to the bereaved ones and so without the presence of people who are bonded to them in love, it would be hard for me to be confident that the information coming from the world of spirit was accurate. All we can do is to continue to send our prayers and thoughts of love in their direction.

Ok he may be backing out of making a "psychic prediction" but to be honest he appears to be one of the few.
How can any "medium" make a prediction as to the health and or were abouts of any missing child or adult for that matter, without having positive proof. Because these situations can be a tad delicate to say the least, they should restrain themselves from making any kind of statement, whether they believe they know or not.
Sylvia Brown got it completely wrong when she declared on TV that a young boy who had been missing for some years was dead. More than just egg on her face when he turned up alive and well!

From what i can gather no psychic has actually been approached by the parents to give them information about little Maddy ( I maybe wrong though).
IMO if a psychic feels they are getting any information about these kind of things surely it would be far better that they write it down on a piece of paper with witnessed dates and times, place it in a sealed enverlope, also witnessed, and kept for a more suitable time.

Yes, exactly, I mean, why use that information for anything useful? It's not as if anyone's life would depend on it, if it were remotely accurate.

However, as it isn't accurate, this approach may at least save some families additional heartache, but it would be better if the psychics stopped claiming these abilities in the first place, or proved them.

I think that Gordon Smith is actually a rather good PR man. He knows what to say and when to say it and usually makes himself look good. Well, apart from his foray into Most Haunted that is!!

He uses what I call the Appeal to Sanctimony - where psychics claim to be genuine because they don't charge for readings, or as in this case don't want to get involved in case someone's feelings get hurt: it's simply feigned piety.

Gordon Smith is probably smart enough to realise, especially after Sylvia Browne's exposés, that the internet allows people to investigate their claims far easier than in the past and any psychic making predictions or giving out alleged psychically-gleaned information is going to fall flat on their face when the truth finally comes out.

I also noted that Diane Lazarus was one of the 'psychics' who went to Portugal to solve the case but we haven't heard a peep from her since. Her input was obviously of no use but perhaps she's thought better of pretending that it was.

I would have thought that higher profile psychics, with an image to protect, would keep well away from a case like this and leave it to the psychic wannabes who desperately want to make a name for themselves under the guise of 'helping Madeleine'.

I think those who've tried, including those who've posted on here, have come out of it rather badly.

The bottom line is: psychics cannot do what they claim they can do, and in this age of electronic information their claims can be scrutinised far easier than ever before. The smart ones will keep away from cases like this one and stick to looking good on TV where their 'powers' are made real by scriptwriters and editors.
