An observation and a recommendation after I tried the service..

Recommendation - Use the "Powered by Amazon link"

Why?

First off the search from the Amazon site is a lot easier, covers more and tells you exactly what you're getting. Secondly, searching through the Amazon site will give you the offers and the other bumph that I find useful such as the "People who brought this also brought......".

Example - I was pre-ordering the new Pratchett book Wintersmith. Ordering from the UK Skeptics section did nothing to differentiate between the Hardback and the Audio CD. When I went to the Amazon site (through the link, don't worry John O0) and pulled up the books details it also offered a rather cool (IMO - your experiences may vary) "The Unseen University cut out book" which I didn't know was coming out an so may not have brought.

To be clear the blame rests with Amazon, no blame on John. I just thought people would appreciate knowing the differences.

Simply using the UKS bookstore as a stepping stone to Amazon will help us. O0

I think that's because it's only available thought 'Amazon Marketplace'. Just use the Powered by Amazon link and search from the main site or use the ISBN (0679764860).

I've just checked and they had 5, in varying conditions, starting at £9. The hardback version had 14 starting from a tenner :)

I might put a direct link above the store so that people can link directly to Amazon. Even linking directly to Amazon still gives us 4% on sales. O0

Any title currently in print ought in principle to be available through amazon.co.uk, unfortunately the publishers/distributors sometimes have trouble getting the right info into the right places. Pale Blue Dot is in fact still in print so there's no reason why it shouldn't be available through amazon.

I have found that locating books on amazon is easiest if you enter the isbn rather than the title. Amazon is not as easy to manipulate as it likes to pretend.

As I work in publishing and have access to BookData (the UK's main biblographic database) feel free to contact me with any queries about titles and isbn's and I'll be happy to help.

I need a book urgently (to take as a gift to someone) - called "Antipodes of the Mind". Amazon have it - how could I order it through UK SKEPS - or do you just have "selected" books?

I think this book is VERY expensive - £25!!!! Crickey! But if I have to buy it at that price - I'd rather you got something out of it!
