Would anyone be up for conducting investigations into a pub in Brum anytime soon? We could choose a 'haunted' pub if we wanted something to be sceptical about- or just choose a cheap pub :)

I'd steer as well clear of pubs as possible. They're a nightmare to work with, generally. We have policy now not to work with pubs, unless they are as a private case or willing to work on our terms, but even then they try to push the limits.
Why a pub? :)

I suppose you could always be sure of the presence of spirits ;D
Bad pun, I acknowledge, but someone had to get it out of the way :)

Speak for youself. :P
I'll investigate any pub. :booze: ;D
I'd give it a go, but it would have to be serious and/or educational for me. O0

I was speaking of a serious, thorough investigation of a pub ;) ;)
Of the type thats so serious and undercover, the only thing the pub owners know about it is that their takings are up ;D
Or I suppose the entities in Starbucks could be investigated :)

We could always take a lead from Nicky and Dave: http://www.p-s-i.org.uk
They do these investigations (properly).
I must admit that I have never taken part in an investigation of this type but I would if it was done professionally.

Not on this forum you shouldn't. ;D
I see what you mean now.
I should be coming to Birmingham in October so perhaps we should arrange a small get together then. O0

I'm likely to be in Brum most weekends since most of my friends are still students, the slackers.

In principle, I'm up for that - I live not too far from Brum.
Depends on childcare and suchlike commitments though :-\ I'll look into dates.

I can't do 13-22 October, but otherwise mostly free.
Anybody else got dates yet?

Well I am a lady of leisure apart from a couple of family birthdays in October. So I'm flexible ^-^
But how's about the 8th?

I could do evening of the 8th.
John - do you know when you might be around?

I live in the big smoke (well actually 375ft above the valley smog in Crystal Palace, "the fresh air suburb" as the Victorians coined it).
Does anyone know of any regular meets of skeptics in or around London?

How about this (http://www.skeptic.org.uk/pub/)?

Not yet. I think the 8th may be too early though. My mother's going away for a break around then and I'll be looking after my disabled brother.
Apart from that first week though, October is pretty much free for me.

This talk is a plug for his new book. I don't know much about this bloke, what are people's opinions of him?

You could wait for his talk, he may have the books at a slightly reduced price there, you never know :)

Hi kath23.
Richard Dawkins is amazing. He has great skill in explaining scientific concepts clearly and concisely without the need for dodgy analogies. He's a geneticist and hard-core athiest and he's excellent in an argument with god-botherers - if you want plenty of ammo in discussions with deluded christians, jews, muslims, etc.. and you want to answer any of their mis-understandings about evolution, then any of his books will do - the Blind Watchmaker is a must.
He is also battling against the current Intelligent Design movement - or as I call it, the Creationism Re-spun movement.
Dawkins is God (hehehehe).

So, who's up for it?
Not sure this bloke is my thing but we go on for a pint afterwards it'll inspire me to go :)
As the nights draw in I tend to feel a bit forlorn and get the urge to mingle :)
I'm an atheist but anything mocking alternative medicine is what really excites me.

P.S Teek I just PM'ed you but I think it ate the PM without sending, has it turned up at all?

Yes, got the PM thanks!
I'd definitely like to go to the Dawkins things, I'll call and get tickets if people want to give a definite yay or nay (I think they're £8) and reimburse me on the night.

OK I booked my tickets people, seeing as none of you replied :(
There's still time to book but I can't guarantee you'll be sitting next to me! ;D

Booked mine last night (ticket A295 - I assume that's 'Atheist 295').
God or no God, I'll be praying that my wife doesn't go crazy in Selfridges while I'm listening to the Dawkmeister.

Can't make it as it's a school night, but I'm going to the one in London on the 9th (mostly to meet his wife, I admit, but hey, I still have a crush on her).

Lalla Ward, she played the second Romana in the best era for Doctor Who (Tom Baker).

I looked at some pics of her online, in some she looks like a very petite version of billy piper :)
Fraid I don't remember any doctor whos before Peter Davidson, and an assistant with loud 80s dress sense called Teegan.
