I saw the priest being interviewed on TV, and as usual the press reports seem to be distorting his message. He did not say that it was OK to shoplift. He said that for the tiny proportion of people at the very bottom of the economic heap who had no money to buy anything, it was less bad to steal from large supermarkets (because it doesn't harm individuals as much) than it was to steal from small shops, or people's homes, or people directly, or to engage in prostitution.
