My Amazon recommendations make me cringe! It's because I like to see what the latest books about the paranormal.

There are also items that puzzle me - why do they think I like Sad Cafe or the TV series Benidorm or Dollhouse or AC/DC?

You could do a psychological study by seeing what people buy. I don't like what this stuff says about me.

Anyone been recommended any really weird things through online stores?

Are you sure they don't sell red sports cars?

They seem to have me fairly well figured out. I just checked and my recommendations include Bad Science, Quirkology, Ian Stewart's Cabinet of Mathematical Curiosities, Carl Sagan's Cosmos and Portable Atheist. Also some Folk CDs and 60s/70s psychedelia. Looks like I'm boringly predictable.

When you say "I know someone.........." is that like going to the doctor and saying "my friend...."

over half of the books they recommended for me i already have - perhaps they know that because i bought them from them , so it could be a cunning plan to make me think i have not yet bought the book and will buy it again. it might work. but i do not think i have your inner fish - not you are in a fish - so i will get that i think.

Definitely not. I'm actually quite impressed with what I have.

Amazon has now started recommending female clothing to me! Does it know something that I don't?

I don't like organisations that keep a record of my shopping habits and try to second guess what I will want to buy next. I used to use a Tesco clubcard, and I suppose it wasn't too bad to get discount vouchers for cheese, yogurt, coffee, etc. ... then one day the woman with an overloaded trolley in front of me in the queue said she didn't have a clubcard and let me put through mine instead. Fine ... maybe I made a quid out of it ... but my next set of discount vouchers included baby food and cosmetics!

I've stopped using the card.
