I wonder how many humans would be willing to do something like this. But then it could have just been an instinctive response.

unfortunately, dogs often attack people even if they're not intruders.

Much as I love my dogs, I wouldn't ever make the mistake of thinking that they were doing anything for my benefit, and not just protecting their own territory.

Yup, a relative of mine had a dog that attacked my grandfather and then a few weeks later the woman next door who had been asked to feed it while they were on holiday. I don't think the dog in this story is any more heroic than the dogs that make the press for savaging young children. All just the same instinct.

One of my dogs would show the burglar where the valuables are hidden:-[ (well, if we had anything valuable)
But yes - instinct and training.
Murphy Dog is very laid back and used to strange people coming to the house and fussing him. He'd bark at the door as he's been trained to do so, but once inside you're safe. Even if you are an axe wielding maniac.
Buffy would give you the 'death glare'. Unless you have sausage. Then she's your best mate. Even if you are an axe wielding maniac.
Hansel though;D He'd bark his head off. Give you his fiercest growl & full on snarling. Probably wouldn't attack, but axe wielding maniacs beware!! Or you'll end up with nearly 5kg of canine fury driving you off his territory & guarding his resources (us).
