Hey hey,

I've been let down by some friends, which means I have two spare tickets to the xtreeemly exciting 8 Lessons and Carols for Godless people event this Thursday (18th Dec, 7.30pm) at the Bloomsbury Theatre. They're great seats, Section A, Row K.

http://skeptic.org.uk/news/2008/1234

The line-up includes Ricky Gervais, Richard Dawkins, Robin Ince, Stewart Lee, Richard Herring, Ben Goldacre, Simon Singh, Mark Thomas, Josie Long, Dara O'Brien, Tim Minchin and more.

They cost £20 each so that's the minimum I'd accept, but if you want to make me a higher offer I won't pretend that won't sway my choice of who gets 'em (that and whether I want to sit next to you all night ;)). I haven't posted this anywhere else yet cause I'd rather you guys had priority, but if no-one PMs by 7pm tomorrow (Monday) I'll start getting the word out elsewhere.

Let me know!

I'd say "yay! This event has been sold out for ages and now I can go!"

Except I'm already goin'. >:D

I just posted a quick note on the link in my OP but I don't think the thread is very active. Still no takers!

Will put them on JREF tonight if no-one from here wants to go.

Want to go and can go are two different things. My employer is expecting me to attend something called a Christmas dinner and are paying for my alcohol as an incentive. Damn their eyes!

Any reviews from either of these events?

Were either of them recorded and likely to appear as a podcast or on Youtube any time?

Thanks, Jack. So, a promising start with a few bad lapses?

I'd still like to watch it (or even just listen to it) though ... do you know whether it was recorded? It would be an omission if no permanent record was kept.

That's a fair summary, though there are other more positive views, such as this from another SitP regular:http://crispian-jago.blogspot.com/2008/12/nine-lessons-and-carols-for-godless.html

Don't know about footage yet; will look out.

I'm writing a review for Skepchick today, will post it later.

PS - Jack, I disagree with just about every point in your review, everything you hated I loved and vice versa! Should be an interesting pair of reviews!

Jack is really nice bloke, but someone buy him a sense of humour for Christmas :cheesy:

What can I do? I don't find rape jokes and holocaust jokes funny.

Some of the comedians were very funny indeed - see my review...

...and not even loved ones would call me "really nice"!

Rape jokes can be hilarious but paedophilia jokes are ALWAYS funny. No sacred cows. Comedy = tragedy + time.

I make holocaust jokes often, I don't think anyone believes that anyone actually finds the holocaust funny. The humour is in the relief. Life is a black abyss of horror. Laughing at it is important.

Q: What did Jesus say as he was being crucified?
A: "Ahhhhhhhhhhhg...!"

Oooh! Too soon?

According to someone on the Bad Science forum (http://www.badscience.net/forum/index.php), the Bloomsbury gigs were was filmed by Gofasterstripe (http://www.gofasterstripe.com/) and should appear on DVD some time. Apparently they could not film at Hammersmith because the management asked for an exorbitant fee.

Cheers Trinoc, have commented to that effect on Skepchick.
