Secret files on UFO sightings have been made available for the first time by the Ministry of Defence http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7398108.stm

The MOD says "there is nothing to indicate that UFOlogy is anything but claptrap"

On Radio-4 this morning however, there was a quote from a UFOlogist who said that "there must be some even more secret files".

I guess that's conspiracy theories for you!

That's the advantage of being a CTer, you can never be proved wrong if you use that line of logic.

It's interesting that the reports collected by the MOD are materially the same stuff as collected by UFO groups. This is exactly as expected and hardly supports the idea that governments have any 'special' knowledge about UFOs that ufologists don't already have.

Of course, it will be claimed that 'they don't release the good stuff'.

This is what's always seemed silly about UFOists. OK, it's one of the things that's always seemed silly. UFOs do not appear in predictable places. They appear all over the place - in front of individual people in the middle of the night, over a whole city in broad daylight, over military ships, in front of people ranging from the most trustworthy to the obviously nuts and so on. How could the government, the military or whoever possibly know more than anyone else? They have no more chance to see or study UFOs than anyone else.

Ah! But the Govt have the crashed ones. :cheesy: You know, like the one that was impersonating a lighthouse near Rendlesham Forest. And they have secret meetings with the Greys (Richard and Jacky Grey from Brighton).

BBC website have updated the story with a video clip

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/newsnight/7399717.stm

There's a really great interview at the end of the clip with Doug Bower (as per crop circle creator) quote "my conclusion over all this is cods wallop"

The intension of the MoD was to dispel some of the UFO myth but in fact they are probably likely to feed it - inevitably I think.

This is now getting silly:

"The pope's chief astronomer ... Father Gabriel Funes, said intelligent beings created by God could exist in outer space .... and some aliens could even be free from original sin, he speculates"

The mind boggles

This story:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7398784.stm

says that most UFOs are "Planes, flames and hallucinations" ... "But a hard-core of 5-10% continues to defy explanation."

A stupid cliche that many nutters use to claim that we are being visited by aliens.
