Well, a welcome step in the right direction, if Blair and the Fundies don't stick an oar in.

Pupils will be encouraged to examine topics from the standpoint of humanism, a philosophy that rejects religion as irrational and advocates reason in its place.
Excellent step in the right direction.
Wonder how long it will last?

This is great news.
I was also drawn to this article .. http://timesonline.typepad.com/faith/2007/08/top-50-bushisms.html .. which kinda dampened my spirits. ???
November can't come soon enough.

brettdbass, that article made me feel faint. To think that such words can come from the mouth of the leader of a country which holds so much power...
Roll on November. It can't come soon enough...

Christ onna cross ,
(I mean geographically randomised deity of your social groups choosing)
This does seem like a good step. Can you imagine how well these kids will turn out when they realise god doesnt want them to kill shit for him?

Come November, we may see the back of Dubya, but we aren't exactly going to get a rationalist in his place, are we? Even if Clinton, Obama, or McCain were atheists, you can bet they'd keep bloody quiet about it.
I did once read (I think) that Kinnock was a non-believer, which rather raised him in my estimation.

To paraphrase the words of some diminutive, beardy old geezer I saw recently...
"Whatever we get, it'll be better than this!"
