I have had the misfortune of going to the man's show, and as for the Sam character it sounds as if he is talking to a dog.
Should Acorah be prosecuted under the fraudlent mediums act.
I have been told that these people he connects to in the audience are actually workers for Acorah.

They say Most Haunted has gone downhill since he left, though.

I really did enjoy watching AcoraH during the Most Haunted, cos he was hilarious to watch.
Did any of you remember that episode in Holland where Acorah did not do the usual act, it was because he could not speak dutch.:cheesy:

There is no fraudulent mediums act any more.
However, regarding prosecutions, what specifically did he do that makes you think he's a fraud? As much as I find what he does distasteful, I have only seen one thing that is evidence of fraud and that was on Most Haunted. Oh, and there's a testimony from someone who claims Derek hot read them when claiming he'd had no prior contact.
But as for his live shows, well, it's unlikely he has the powers he claims, I agree. But without any evidence, we can't really call him a fraud.

As a point of fact the Fraudulent Mediums Act 1958 is still in force until April 2008. At that point ti will be repealed by the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2007
More details here...

The new regulations allow for civil prossecution whereas the Fraudulent Mediums Act could only be invoked by the Driector of Public Prosecutions.
The advantage of a civil prosecution is that the burden of proof is substantially lower. Rather than beyond reasonable doubt we must only prove our case on the balance of probabilities. As such it may be that from next year we will see test cases against mediums who target their acts at vulnerable people.
I'd be intrigued to see how this pans out.

Yes, I agree with that. It's a positive claim and as such requires evidence to back it up. Without such evidence it could also be libellous. ???
I prefer to say that I don't accept that any psychic can do what they claim they can do and I will not accept it until/unless they actually prove that they can.

have to say i do sort of enjoy our derek performing. but it's like a wince-grin-wince type of experience. he can be very amusing especially when does his camp "over the shoulder" asides to his other-worldly contacts. i've always wondered too, if people like derek really do think they hear "messages from the other side" isn't that a symptom of schizophrenia?

Derek Acorah sounds like Ian Paisley when he is possessed, and actually for a laugh I did try to prosecute the man under the Fraudlent Mediums act, but he is show-business. He is RADA trained.:cheesy:

I used to represent Derek on the Internet (Thankfully I no longer do, I saw the light:cheesy:), I can say however no one I know or knew ever was a plant for him, however I have heard that he had got previous information from other sources. I'd say now that I well and truely had my eyes opened and he is not what he seems.;)

Don't care if this is an old thread, but I am disgusted with some of the comments I have had the misfortune to witness on this topic.
1 - Derek Acorah is and always will be a recognised and 'genuine' medium.
2- The reason Derek Acorah may have made up some of these fictional characters is because of
a) There were probably no spirits around that he could see at that time.
and b) He is a born entertainer aswell as a fantastic medium.
Please look at all the facts first before going with what the media says, it only takes one match to make a forest fire, and most of you are like sheep anyway, following what the others say, repeating things over and bloody over but in different words. Being a medium, even if you are as gifted as Acorah, is just a freakin' job, and I'll bet you that it only took one person (a medium) to stir this all up. One of those, jealous, depressing mediums who just can't see to make it, but it only took one man, and one stroke of luck, he hired all those sound crews, directors etc, for himself, because he saved all of his money he made from being a small-time Psychic, it just turns out that his crystal balls were bigger than anyone elses. And you people just can;t stand to see people happy, or actually TRY to make a sucess out of themselves.
I shall say no more on the matter. You make up you own minds.....O0

Just to clarify, are these the "comments you have had the misfortune to witness on this topic", or are these your thoughts?
