The council's Enforcement Chief Jon Maddox said: "The council has invested significantly in a cleaner Luton and my colleagues work hard to make a visible difference.

"I don't intend to let a small minority of litter louts take us a step backwards and will take action against anyone I hear of dropping litter."

What a prick!

Are there no birds in Luton? I doubt that a Wotsit would last long. ::)

Still, it's nice to know that they're clamping down on hardened criminals in Luton. Does walking on the cracks in the pavement carry a custodial sentence in Luton? :ponder:

I agree that it's a little excessive, but an argument would be that an unsuspecting person could tread on the Wotsit then tread lurid orange food colouring into their carpet. Or something.

Trouble is, where do you draw the line? If you can make a judgement call that a Wotsit is OK to throw cause it's edible or degradable, what about ten Wotsits? Or a cigarette butt? They degrade pretty quickly but it's not Ok to throw one. Chewing gum is edible, but that's not Ok either. So, I guess they just have a zero tolerance policy, makes it easier all round.

Plus, the poor Enforcement Officer would have conniptions if he ever came to visit London.

According to my dictionary: A fit of violent emotion, such as anger or panic.

I love that word, I use it often although I'm familiar with it from L.M. Montgomery books, she uses it in the phrase "conniption fit".

I often use it to describe that thing that cats do when they suddenly panic-attack your shoe or the arm of the sofa.

This is similar to the man who was fined recently by TWO different local councils at the same time when he was spotted throwing chips out of his car window while driving across the boarder of the two counties.

Surely the logical conclusion is that all these kids throwing bread to the ducks in Luton are equally guilty.
