Hi, my first thread. I apologise if this is in the wrong section, I was a little unsure on where to ask this and I did search but no answer came up.

I was wondering if anybody knew of any stores or vendors in the UK who stock the American Skeptic magazine? If not could I please get any recommendations for other magazines that you subscribe to that might interest a fellow skeptic?

Cheers for any replies

Not sure of any shops that stock it but I'm pretty sure they do international subscriptions.

This is the perfect thread about a magazine, it's subtitled 'skeptical issues' :D

I don't read any skeptic magazines personally, but there is a British magazine called The Skeptic you might want to check out:

I've put some links to the mags' subscription pages at the bottom of our links page: http://www.ukskeptics.com/links.php

Under 'publications'.

All the mags are usually of good quality. O0

I don't think any of them are sold in newsagents' outlets in the UK but they're all available by on-line subscription.

They tend to be 'skepticism for skeptics' in that they aren't introductory, but you don't have to be an academic to understand the articles.

I like them as they tend to be widely focused and are not all about the paranormal.

Edit to add:

In fact, here are the links - I didn't think of copying them!! ::)

Publications:

Skeptics' magazines well worth subscribing to.

UK:

The Skeptic (http://www.skeptic.org.uk/shop/index.php) - edited by Professor Chris French.

USA:

Skeptical Inquirer (http://csicop.safeshopper.com/1/cat1.htm?572) - the magazine published by CSI.
Skeptic (https://www.skeptic.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=SS&Product_Code=subscription&Category_Code=S) - published by the skeptics society in the USA.

So that's www.skeptic.com for the US magazine, www.skeptic.org.uk for the UK magazine, and www.skeptics.org.uk for this site. Got it?

;D;D;D

You'd think there was a competition to see who could get the best name with 'skeptic' in it.

We're at:

www.skeptics.org.uk

www.sceptics.org.uk

www.ukskeptics.com

www.uksceptics.com

and...

you can use all those without the www at the front as well. :cheesy:

I subscribe to The Skeptic, and have found it interesting at times - although overall I'm still on the fence about whether it represents value for money.

Personally, I feel I have learnt more about critical thinking from the web than from magazines - although a really good book is probably more educational than either. Perhaps investing in something from the UKS bookstore would be money better spent ...

We've got a new book store ready to go - just waiting for Melanie to get back to me before setting it live. O0
