Quoting a post.

If you want to reply to a person and quote what they've said, simply reply to the relevant thread by using the http://www.ukskeptics.com/forum/images/buttons/quote.gif button. Their entire posting will be quoted in your reply.

NOTE: you can edit the quoted post to pare it down to the relevant point you wish to address.

Multi quoting posts.

Sometimes, however, you may want to reply to more than one posting by picking out the relevant points from each to reply to an argument.

To do this, locate the postings that you want to reply to and then click the http://www.ukskeptics.com/forum/images/buttons/multiquote_off.gif button for each post you wish to quote. The button will turn from blue to orange to indicate that the post has been selected for quoting. Repeat this for each post you want to quote.

When you've chosen the posts you wish to reply to simply reply using the standard http://www.ukskeptics.com/forum/images/buttons/reply.gif button and the multiple postings will be included in your reply window.

Again, the quoted posts can be edited so that only the points you wish to address are included.

Is there any chance the limit for PMs could be increased from 50? I understand that ins and outs can be moved to another folder, but I assume that they still count towards the 50 limit.

Tom.

Penny, can you try again with the .avi file.

They have to be enabled and I think I've done it right.

Hello John,

Is there a way to get notification that someone has posted while you have been composing a reply?
I have looked in the CP and found nothing.

Hello John,

I have looked in the CP and found nothing.

Doesn't it normally tell you when you hit post?

Or am I thinking of other boards?

If it does, I haven't noticed.:-[

If someone has posted while you were replying, you should find that your post appears as a new post when you click on new posts.

I would like to be able to view the new post before I submit my own.
My post my need to change to account for new information or my have been made redundant altogether.

You'd have an edit window, although not a long one, to return to your post, at least. Is there a reason why the edit facility is not permanently on?

I'm not sure if it was purely down to a certain psychic woman repeatedly editing her posts to try to minimise damage - but it might have been ;D

That feature does not seem to be included in this board. I don't know if there's a plug-in that would add it though. I'm not very 'up' with this system -as excellent as the software is, the supporting documentation is atrociously bad IMO.

As it is, if you preview your post before submitting it and scroll down the page, the recent replies can be seen.

To prevent people posting on here and then coming back later and deleting it all or changing what they'd posted!

There's a courtesy edit time to rectify typos etc., and then a further edit time to make amendments but a 'last edited' time will be logged to indicate that the posting has been altered since it was originally posted.

Of course, admins/mods can always change posts for anyone who spots an error after the edit time has passed if need be.

The JREF board has it, so it might be worth asking about it over there.

Well I got a bit sidetracked looking for plugins.

We now have the Zoints profile system. O0

I haven't got a clue what it's all about mind you. ;D

But we've got it anyway.

On the psedoscience board there is a moved post from DrB which isn't accessible- to do with a Talk in Brum which I think may refer to the Science and Pseudoscience (http://www.philosophy.bham.ac.uk/events/Pseudoscience.shtml) One-day conference on Saturday, 15th March 2008 University of Birmingham,

Is there anyway the post could be dragged out of limbo and into the light, because it does look interesting.

I experience a problem with the Latest Posts function.

Every time I use one of the links in that area at the bottom of the main page, it logs me out.

Thought it was me messing up at first, but I'm sure that it's the forum chucking me out. How rude of it!

Anyway, heads up on it - don't know if anyone else gets this problem?
Using XP and Firefox, both latest versions.

I have XP and Firefox and it works OK for me.

Anyone else getting this problem?

That's an add-on feature. Maybe it relies on cookies or something. I'm not sure TBH.

Bored heads up - I'm still getting this problem.
I'm sure cookies are at standard defailt settings and I always tick the "keep me logged in" option every day. Can't think of anything else that might affect it..?

I'd try clearing your cookies and exit your browser.

Restart it and come back here, then log on with the "keep me logged on" ticked

That sorts out most problems like this

Sorry to disappoint, but that is my standard practice every day on this machine.

As an addendum, the problem I have with the new posts links also kicks me out when browsing in IE7 and Chrome.

Perhaps I should specify that I'm clicking the little arrow buttons that display the alt text "Jump to first unread...."

Hope that helps!

Hmmmm.......

Maybe...

The little arrows rely on cookies to keep track of your read posts. Would it be a hardship\security risk to not clear cookies and see how it goes?

brettdbass

Hmm... it's definitely cookie related.
Like I say, I always clear cookies (and everything else) each night, so it's brand-new-fresh every day.
On first logging in, it will kick me out when I use the arrow links.
But, if I stay in the same session in my browser (Firefox, today), clear cookies and log back in, it doesn't kick me out.

It's probably something I'm either doing and don't realise it, or something I simply misunderstand about how cookies work.

Move along, I'll sit here in the corner quietly dribbling...

What have I done wrong? My avatar is huge! How do I get rid of it?

Gaspode
13th June 2009, 09:29 PM
Arrgh! A giant dog! :scared:

When you upload an image for an avatar it doesn't get resized. You have to do that yourself and then upload it.

If you want to remove the current one, go to User CP, click Edit Avatar and select 'Do not use an avatar'.

When I go to Edit Avatar I don't get a 'Do not use an avatar' option - possibly because the Giant Dog is in the way!

In Firefox, go to Tools -> Options -> Content and untick "Load images automatically", then reload the displayed page.

For Opera it seems to be View -> Images -> unselect "Show Images".

I don't know about IE because I never use the beast. Maybe someone else can help.

OK, It's gone, I don't know how but thanks for trying. I will try to upload him again but resize him first. Time for bed!
