I have met yet another 'interesting person' online :)

She claims a satanic cult drugged and tormented her from the age of 3. She had to change her name to escape :o Yet she's quite happy to talk about this around her third time of chatting to me on msn :)

Any thoughts?

P.S. The study of cults is one of my eccentric hobbies. Yet I could find nothing like what she describes listed on any databases etc of destructive groups.

There were many discussions of well-organised Satanic Ritual Abuse - and how it has been proven not to happen. :)

Sounds like attention seeking, "I was part of this non-documented bad thing, and even if it was documented I can't give you my original name!".

Whether there's an underlying cause is another matter

I wouldn't doubt this person has been abused if that's what they say. But not 'Satanic' abuse. This person has also been in and out of psychiatric hospital, not that this disproves what she says but it might explain why she would tell it to herself and others, if it somehow made her feel better.

I am going spare listening to this person now. They are on a messageboard I am on and have just gone on about it to around a 100 people they hardly know.

Is it just me or does anyone else find it really hard hearing made-up stuff being spouted especially if others are seemingly falling for it, without feeling that they need to say something to counter it?

I'm having to bite my tongue so much :o Maybe I suffer from a Skepticism tourettes or something :D
