I was reading THIS (http://www.skeptics.org.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=3731) thread while you were posting this one, and wondering about answering and deciding not to resurrect a thread just because it interested me when everyone else had finished with it.

Spooky coincidence! Must mean something, surely ...... >:D

Yes, our thoughts must have been at the same vibrational level.;)

Connected in the quantum by one of those strings?

You wait ages for a coincidence and then a load all come along at once ...

And I was going to post a new Forum topic on the question of Synchronicity today but didn't have time.

Oh but there is one hitch - my today is 19th April not the 6th when Bindee posted the thread topic.....but I was thinking about Syncronisity on that day.

It's true! In fact I think of synchronicity everyday because my life is so full of synchronized events.

That happens to me to! It's the kind of spooky stuff that makes me believe in statistical probabilities.

People who think about synchronicity a lot tend to notice a lot of synchronicities in their life. Is this a coincidence?

I think about syncronicity when it happens - I don't anticipate it.

Anyway, could you work out the probability of this:

I went to Tasmania to see the little town I was born in and where I spent the first year of my life. Upon arriving I found myself booked into the hospital I was born which had since been converted into a private hotel.

Then armed with nothing more than a photo of the house I'd lived in (no address) I approach the first Taxi Cab driver I see and ask if he recognizes the house in the photo .

The driver is rather taken aback because it turns out that it is his house:cheesy:
He not only drove me there gratis he invited me in and showed me around.

The towns population was approx 20,000. So was this a highly improbable coincidence or not?

I wonder if it might be more accurate to say that when you recognise a coincidence in your life, you wonder if it is a sychronicity. Others might simply say 'that was an interesting coincidence' and then forget it.

In my experience, whenever someone hears about synchronicities for the first time, they start reporting them all the time (for a while anyway). It forms a strong connection in your brain.

So was this a highly improbable coincidence or not?

I agree it was improbable. But all that means is you might have to wait longer for it to happen, not that it is impossible or paranormal.

How many coincidences as improbable as this happen in a typical person's lifetime?

I'm guessing no one has researched this, unless someone knows better. You might be able to model it mathematically, though.
