View Full Version : Anecdotal observations

My wife has told me of a few observations that she says make her cringe (and her friends cringe) - maybe its a female thing ;D.

Anyway, just for fun she says to me "why do older men like wearing their keys on a key ring on the outside of their jeans / trousers (on the belt holders)?" - she says its like they want everyone to know they have keys because they are sooooo important. So my little anecdotal scientist of a wife reckons you can tell a lot about this (you all know who you are... ;D ;D). She says, you never see women doing it - and i thought.....no you dont!!!! So what does this tells us? Are older men compensating? Are they one step away from buying leather trousers, getting a pony tail, and a Ferrari? Just about to enter mid-life crisis?

Another one is again about men wearing their hands-free ear-piece when they are out of the car. She says boys like to run around and pretend they are in the secret service or the FBI ;D Again she reckons men are trying to make themselves look soooooo important - you never see women doing it.....I have to say, I never have but there are loads of fellas walking about pretending they are guarding the president or something when really they are probably ordering the shopping.... ;D

Her final one is, she reckons men like to use fancy dress parties as an excuse to wear what they have always wanted to - some men just seem to be enjoying themselves too much.... :o

What does this tell us? Anyone else got any purely anecdotal observations like this? Is it a woman vs man thing?

No keys on a chain outside the trousers

No bluetooth earpiece

Trust me on the final one though - I don't need a fancy dress party to wear what I want (ask anyone who's seen one of my shirts...)

You never see women doing those things as they carry everything around in their handbags.

It takes my wife about 3 hours to find keys in her handbag after rummaging through the make-up, combs, brushes, purses, a spare safety helmet, shock absorbers for a 1972 Ford Cortina, a copy of 'Fly Fishing' by JR Hartley... ;D

You get the picture. ;)

And why do they always take their handbag to the toilet? ???

1. If you don't take your bag with you to the toilet, it might not be there when you return.

2. You never know when you might need to use something that you have in your handbag.

Men wear keys on their belts for the same reason they wear their phones on their belts: they have figured out that stuffing everything in their pockets makes it look as though they have neurofibromatosis, but they haven't figured out the handbag concept. Look at mature men in France some time ... tidy little handbags for diaries, wallets, keys and other things that would ruin the line of a suit with no vents.

When somebody makes an Uhura-style bluetooth earpiece I'll think about getting one.

I shocked a group of men recently when I told them that 80% of the times that I go to the toilet, I don't actually use the toilet. I just go to look at my face in the mirror and retouch my make up and hair.

Vain creatures, we are, but beeyewtiful.

Ah ha! Insider information.

Now to the biggest mystery of all. Why do they go in pairs? :ponder:

I've yet to see a satisfactory explanation for that one.

Keys and phone worn on the belt - hard to forget of a morning as you have to put them there and easy to grab when you need them. For the record my keys just go into my trouser pocket and phone gets dumped in the knee pocket (I wear combats) everything is checked for by the pat test before I shut the front door

Bluetooth headsets - we've just brought a shiny toy and want to show it off (this is a rare crossover between geeks and salesmen) ^-^

Fancy dress, unless it's themed, I turn up as a Medieval mercenary. I've got all the kit already, I'm lazy and wearing swords and daggers constitutes shiny toys again O0
