In your first link there's an advert for a used tombstone.
I actually have one! When I bought my current place the garage was empty except for a nice marble headstone, engraved.
I keep meaning to dig it out and play a joke on someone.

Do you think that someone's noticed that it's missing yet?

I don't know if it's still there, but Northampton General Hospital used to have a sign reading "Family Planning Information - use rear entrance".

Sorry if this one's been posted already. I bought a kettle like this. It didn't work but I've kept it anyway.

OGC unveils new logo to red faces
Stories about Government bungling were ten-a-penny in 2008, but the tale of the £14,000 new logo commissioned for the Office of Government Commerce (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/1901656/OGC-unveils-new-logo-to-red-faces.html) was the pick of the bunch...
Pictures of the year: weird news
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/telegraph/multimedia/archive/01204/ogc-2_1204122i.jpg
...The design, based on the agency's initials, looked ever so slightly rude when turned on its side, causing much merriment among staff. A spokesman for the OGC joked that the logo was "not inappropriate to an organisation that’s looking to have a firm grip on Government spend”

Wrong translations? Don't ask no further! Whenever I buy any gadget, there are nearly always wrong translations. Sometimes it's impossible to understand what they meant. Especially if it is any products from China. I'm afraid they translate the instructions by/at/with Google.
Or my mp3-player. Instead of a German leaflet they gave me 1 in French and 2 in English. Maybe they knew, that my English is much better than my French.

A rather odd translation, particularly as "Rucksack" is a perfectly good English word. At least someone didn't go to a German-English dictionary and translate it as "Jerkbag"!
There are lots of problems with foreign words which can translate to multiple English ones. In another thread you referred to a "lucky" marriage rather than a "happy" one ... I assume you translated "Gluck" as "luck" instead of "happiness". That's the problem with English being a hybrid of words stolen from everyone else - we have different words for shades of meaning that other languages don't have.

yes, these different shades of meaning are the problem. When to pick which word? But each language has different words of nearly the same meaning. The Eskimos have 20 or 30 words for "snow".
For instance "big, tall, high, great, huge, large, vast....... ".
In German I could say "gross, hoch, riesig, weit, lang,......"
That "lucky" was meant to express that someone had the good luck to find the right person for a marriage. But, doesn't matter. You did understand.

Made me think of those Jane Austen type books where the young socialites are seeking a "foturnate match"

Ah, I see. I agree that a happy marriage requires a hell of a lot of luck, but that's just my cynicism ...
