Right you are, Julia. The hellfire-and-brimstone sermon for the youtube generation!

When I think of the mischief that is done to young minds by this evil nonsense, I could cheerfully see the perpetrators thrown to the lions. Then I calm down a bit and reflect on what can be done. Perhaps the best idea is to get the point across that this is a form of child abuse, and those who perpetrate or condone it are doing something utterly shameful.

I saw it here

and thought it deserved (for want of a better word) a wider audience. The comments are just as disturbing as the video itself.

Julia,

Thanks for the link. Felt quite disturbed by the first one, I'm a bit hesitant to go to this one. But no doubt curiosity will get the better of me.

Hubby was laughing his bits off at that. I think we all know where he is going to end up when he dies. Until then I shall obviously try to save his immortal soul with loads of intense proseletising.

Anyone know a good divorce lawyer?

It really boils my piss that the credulous get a free pass when it comes to bullying, intimidation and bigotry just because they are under the delusion that they are doing god's work.

It really does border on child abuse, and I don't just mean that creepy movie, I mean religion in gerneral.

I know I have some weird and wonderful ideas but I never shared them with my kids. I have talked to them (2 sons and a daughter) on and off about when they were younger, like you do. And my sons (with cheeky smiles on their faces) said, "We just thought you were weird." Then my lovely daughter chimed in to save the day, "Well not weird... Eccentric." So I've gone from weird to eccentric. I can live with that.

I second that. This is the kind of nonsense I had to endure for years. Guilt mongering. I've never seen it condensed quite like that, though. I also love the reinterpretation. To my understanding, hell is just 'absence from God', according to the Bible which people like this so pervert.

It's judgemental rubbish like this that drove me to becoming a non-practising Christian, and drives me ever closer to dispensing with my faith altogether (and only fear that stops me!)

Oh I don't know. I adore the specificity of the medieval conception of hell. Down with the "absence of God". Hurray for the Lyke Wake Dirge :cheesy:

Hmmm.

They got what-for all right, but it was for lacking charity, not credulity. If we absolutely must have morality tales, I suppose that's a tolerable moral.

Escaping religious belief has given me a great sense of freedom.

Do you celebrate christmas and easter?

A "christian"?
http://www.seiyaku.com/customs/pagan-symbols.html

So you see, todays christians are really pagans and will burn in a early christian hell.
Unless christianity is the wrong religion. Maybe an eastern religion is the one to fear?
No matter what a christian does, he/she is wrong by some interpretations.

The skeptic view point is so much simpler and easy to live with.

I can empathise with that state of mind...
And it took this poor believer to the point where he did a serious number on himself: http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/01/09/hand.cut.off.ap/index.html?iref=mpstoryview
Whilst it may be that this is 'one man with a Bible'I just wonder how many others out there have reached such a point of despair because they've listened to some egotist peddling shite about the 'Rapture',or some such 'cosmic reordering'?Once again projected fears of an imagined 'Hell' have put someone into a very real one in their present existence.

I shouldn't think there's much chance of surgeons being able to re-attach a 'somewhat cooked' hand, but I suppose the poor sod should be thankful he didn't see the mark on his forehead.
